Schools closed again. Make that 8 out of last 10. 40-50 mph winds with ice on trees tonight could make tomorrow another closing.

Meanwhile, just a few counties SE it's like "it's winter?"  Crazy difference this past 10 days.

With this mornings 2nd ice storm in the last 2 days there are now a reported 130,000 with out power at this time much of the city of Grand Rapids has lost power. There are reports of many trees (and of course wires down) the wind has picked up a little here and the ice is now falling off the trees.

That sounds nasty. With the cold coming and no heat, people will certainly feel the repercussions. Stay warm and safe.

Really bad down here this morning 1/2 to 3/4 inch of ice is crushing trees and taking out power.  Winds are suppose to gust to 35mph and some light snow is falling.  Keeping my fingers crossed that I can keep the lights on.

D**n..

Snow tapered down to a lighter rate momentarily, but now this area has increased in intensity. Pretty incredible that it is just "parked" over the metro right now. Visibility is incredibly low. Now THIS is winter!

This reminds me of a storm back in Jan 2014 when the thing just kep redeveloping over the metro and wouldn’t die. Steady moderate snow here again too. Keep it going!

That defo band is just parked over the top of both of you...congrats on an exciting week of winter up there for you guys.  Would your total snow fall to date be above average after you tally up both systems this week?

I haven’t measured since about 11am and it’s still snowing. Assuming we end with about 7-8” (maybe more?) that would put me about 5” below normal for the season. Heck of a comeback in a short amount of time, with still a locked and loaded pattern for the next week or so to possibly pick up more snow.

MNtonka and Stormgeek you guys close to that? MNtonka is only a few miles from me so I assume totals are close to mine.

I’m over in Mendota Heights right now and it’s really coming down hard. I thought it was just about over, but it has really picked up I the last hour or so. Just sitting there on the radar. Without measuring, I’d say about 8” right now.

Yeah I am sitting somewhere around that as well, maybe closer to 8 than 7.

Not bad! I’m thinking 8” right now as well. Still coming down.

Very nice up there! Just sky-rocketed my way to (another) 56F and rainy day. Winds are roaring attm tho, so the CF is making it's presence felt. Supposedly dropping 40F overnight with 16F in my grid. Now this is an arctic front!

Arctic CF has already made its way through and temps are crashing with the west winds howling and rattling my windows.  Supposed to get down to +3F tonight without any snow OTG.  Pretty impressive cold.

I would say we got about 0.15" of ice here from this storm. We did have some snow on the backside of the storm once temperatures began to plummet, but the wind makes it hard to measure. Probably around 0.5" or so.

The wind has been relentless on the backside of this storm. Highest guest in CR so far is 41mph.

Wow, 56F today? Dang, we’re headed down to -8F tonight and a high of 0F tomorrow. Fresh snowcover should get us down to -18F tomorrow night. Pretty amazing how this sub forum can experience extreme differences at the same time. I hope you get blitzed soon man.

Looks like Dubuque reported freezing rain of .20” a little before 9am, and we did get some additional ice after that. Probably ended around 0.25”, also with a trace of snowfall. Given the ice, a little snow, and strong winds, I’m a little surprised the DVN only had a winter weather advisory. Nevertheless, it is what it is. Not great conditions out there, and untreated roads are just a sheet of ice. But the main roads are fine, at least as far as I could tell.
