Should be fun to watch and experience this cold front today.

Indeed. You can easily tell where the front is located just by looking at that sharp contrast of temps. Its a potent one as well.

Ill be enjoying your cold from afar.

How does this cold compare to injections of cold in the past?

Is it early or about on time?

We have another warm day. 93*. But tomorrow will. Be windy, 20-30 mph and a high of 63*

Tonight will see that front blow through. Windy.

90% chance of rain, some severe cells.

Here comes Fall! Ready or not!

37 degrees with winds gusting to 45 mph and drizzle blowing sideways. May have freezing drizzle or a little snow this afternoon as the temps keep falling. Amazing

Not long ago you were dealing with 90’s and humidity! The day has finally come which you had been waiting for a long time.

It’s about on time in terms of norms, maybe a bit behind schedule for those up north and a little ahead for those in the S Plains.

Temps are slowly rising into the upper 40s under abundant sunshine. Highs today will be pushing 70F. What a great stretch of weather this week. Lots of sunshine, mild days and chilly, crisp nights. Gotta enjoy this weather. Wont last.

As Tom stated, down here, about on time in terms of simple stats like high and low temps. The kicker is, though, the methodology and extreme of going from calm, humid, warm and tranquil to a complete reversal in less than a week. Like flipping a switch. Most autumns on our end sort of stair-step down as we go. This one is just going to crash down. So, in terms of extremes, and rapid changes, it's pretty extreme.

As I have stated before the site, I use for much of my past weather data is down due some kind of budget issues (lack of money)

The low at both my house and GRR last nigh was 48. The current temperature here at my house is now 58 with cloudy skies. The H/L at Grand Rapids yesterday was 70/43. For today the average H/L is 63/44. The record high was 85 set in 1949.  The record low is 26 set in 1956. The warmest minimum is 63 set in 1954 and the coldest maximum is 40 set in 1906. Last year the H/L was 72/62.

The "blue norther" has left its mark in Denver...that is insane, literally from Summer to Winter by the time you ate dinner yesterday and woke up this morning.  Wild times!

In 16 hours, Denver’s temperature has dropped 62°. From 83° (3pm yesterday) to 21° (7am this morning). #COwx

Well, Andie, you asked for some rain.... gfs_apcpn_us_64.png

There won't be any drought down this way, guaranteed. Lol.

Oh Baby!! Those rain dances DO work!

Looking forward to finally giving everything some relief plus the psychological relief that always seems to come with rain. I’m so pumped for this.

The air is warm and very humid this morning. It just need a little push and it will drop from the sky. It’s overcast and breezy. On its way.

We obviously reached our high temp at midnight when we were in the mid 60's.  Right now we continue dropping at 10:15 AM down to 35 with winds still gusting to 35 MPH.  Raw and wet day out there.  Forecast now says we could drop to 23 or 24 tomorrow morning.  Freeze warning covers almost all of Nebraska for the next 2 nights.  Chadron State College in Northwest Nebraska is closed today due to blizzard conditions.  I'm sure many schools in the Panhandle also called off.

Picked up a little bit over 2 inches of rain from another round of loud morning thunderstorms. This stretch of very wet weather continues around here as the amounts over the last month and a half are starting to really pile up.

Now waiting on the cold front to come through around noon time to drop our temps from the 60’s into the 30’s and 40’s, I am ready.

Found that out last evening as well when I went to research the storm of Jan 2005

Wait til we all see this again. That word "precedent" will have some real meaning then. Timewarp 1898-99 and 1911-12 style!

Believe it or not, there was an even worse arctic front sometime in the pioneer era (1860s to 1880s). This one was during a winter month and a balmy snow melting day with a 40F high had folks turning out their animals in pastures. When the front came thru with high winds and dropped the temp to -40F those animals were literally frozen to death in their tracks! Many people died trying to help their animals as well. As if pioneering this vast wilderness back then wasn't full of enough risks, Nature was downright scary as well.

No kidding. I need to sit down and do some more research this season when I get frozen in here in a month and a half.

Schoolchildren's Blizzard of Jan. 1888 is still required reading in Nebraska Elementary Schools.  Also in the State Capitol in Lincoln, they have artwork and statues of teacher's that gave their lives trying to cover children as they tried to walk home from 1 room school houses.  Tremendous stories of bravery and sadness from that long ago blizzard and arctic front.

There is now a freeze watch for my area, unfortunately.  This is the way it always works.  For days leading up to the cold, the NWS will keep lows in the mid 30s and talk about wind and maybe clouds holding the temp up, but then just before the cold arrives they lower the temps to the low 30s or even upper 20s and hoist the frost/freeze advisories.

Yeah that sucks. That could also mute the fall colors which are just starting to show a bit on the trees here though colors may be further advanced in towns, which usually is the case since more hardwoods etc are planted there.

The cold front will be here sooner than earlier forecast unless it slows down. It’s making good progress across western Iowa. Just maybe we can get some storms firing along it as timing might be a little more favorable if it arrives this evening. This morning’s rain really crapped out and had way less than was forecast with only 0.17” here so far. The sun even peeped a little and it’s mild and humid so.....? But the HRRR isn’t showing much.

Yes. I have read extensively about that one. Was a horrific tragedy. Amazing weather event, but horrible at the same time.

Severe thunderstorm watch along the Red River into Okla..   We may see thunderstorms in the 7-8 pm timeframe.

Low in the mid 40's high around 58*. Saturdays will give us mid 40's as a low  I can dig it.

We still will be in the mid-'80s some next week, but that's Fall in Texas.  It's famous for making some folks sick as hell.

I'm just hoping we don't miss the rain train.
