Part I - January 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

How about earlier in the run? I barely care about moderation right now-- the snow and cold I feel from Sunday-Wednesday should be our main priority. The rest can and will change for sure.

Teleconnections...We are screwed.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

There are no snowfall maps... but it looks like the operational run from Sunday - Thursday.

Here is the coldest point... on Tuesday afternoon.

Am I dumb for thinking that things look fine? Two models are saying nearly opposite things, and they are going to flip flop the next few days, I feel.

Remember... the EPS is most useful in the 7-15 day period.   And best used a general guide and not for surface details.

00Z EPS for next Saturday...

Nothing is set it stone. It’s just a matter of looking for trends and applying our climate’s tendencies. It’s a complicated pattern with a ton of moving parts.

Pray for better runs tomorrow good night

What if more people are praying for it not to happen?

My wife's prayers are canceling out yours.    ;)

Back to a ridge over Alaska by day 11 and 12... could almost see this leading somewhere decent.

ecmwf-ensemble-avg-namer-z500-anom-95216

I have no idea how this will end up but I feel like we’ve seen the models try and do that before. In 16-17 I seem to remember the ensembles hinting at the block lifting away with a big undercut but it never really succeeded. Ridge bounced back and the jet failed to truly break through. I’m probably wish casting!

Where’s Phil?

Just gorgeous outside. Trees are all coated with snow and I can see Mt. Si and all of the Cascades perfectly clear. So different than the very gloomy day it was here.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm still excited. Cold and possible snow, let's just see how these crazy models go.

A long exposure picture with your camera would probably look amazing.

Time to take the lights down.

Yep, going to do that Sunday evening after the Seahawks lose and it’s a balmy 51 degrees outside still.

Yeah I tried to take a pic of the moon reflecting off of the snow on the trees with my IPhone...Didn’t work.

I have an iPhone 9. I really don't like the camera. I used to have a Galaxy and found it to be far superior, even in its earlier incarnations.
