Obviously, the policies of the Democratic Party circa 1960 are more relevant when deciding whether to support the Democrats today, than are the policies of that party in 2024.

To answer your question (at least in my view), intent, where those beliefs stem from, and whether those people spread said hate through politics or media, etc have a lot to do with how I see people. Everyone should acknowledge that acceptable behaviors and feelings change. When people don't change with society is when things get messy.
You probably wouldn't think too highly of someone who still believed women shouldn't get to vote.
