seattleweatherguy
UPDATE...A few areas of showers already are continuing to develop around the area, with a broken to overcast cloud layer over Western Washington. Expect continued breaks in the cloud deck, along with cooling temperatures aloft, to increase instability into the afternoon and evening. Stronger showers may contain brief downpours, small hail, and gusty winds, with a dominant motion from south to north as they develop. Isolated lightning is also possible, mostly south of a La Push to Tacoma line, as well near the Cascades. Updated aviation and marine sections follow below, along with the previous short/long term discussions. Cullen && Sounds like the winner is the south part of the puget sound again. Hope to hear some thunder today!
GeorgeWx
Here's some blog post Mark and Cliff has written about the "Brookings Effect". One of the most extreme "Brookings Effect" heat waves of all time was back in early July 2008. July 8 and 9 was incredible, got to 108 on the 8th, then only down to 85 the next morning, then back up to 102 during the day. HOT! https://fox12weather.wordpress.com/2015/07/28/the-brookings-effect-today/ https://cliffmass.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-banana-belt-of-brookings-oregon.html?m=1Good luck sleeping that night. Jesse
12z GFS looked really good for Memorial Day to the end of the month. But the ensembles trended much warmer. Last night’s 00z EPS trended way warmer in the 7-10 range as well. So at this point I think it’s safe to expect a very hot end to the month, unfortunately. Jesse
Huge jump on the GFS ensembles compared to the last few runs. I think the question now isn’t whether we hit 90 the last week of May, but how far into the 90s we get.
