Rain pounding down on the roof now again...looking forward to what should be a showery day here and maybe we get lucky and get a couple rumbles of thunder.

The 00z EURO shows a nice Memorial Day weekend with hot anomalies by Memorial Day. Governors of Washington and Oregon, time to open up the beaches! ecmwf_T850a_nwus_10.pngecmwf_T850a_nwus_11.png

Euro run wants to bring in some hot weather in the 7-10 day range...gfs wants to keep the cooler unsettled pattern going in the 7-10 day range. Kind of get the feeling we will end up on the dry and warm side but we will see. Either way the next week looks unsettled still with rain at times.

UPDATE...A few areas of showers already are continuing to

develop around the area, with a broken to overcast cloud layer

over Western Washington. Expect continued breaks in the cloud

deck, along with cooling temperatures aloft, to increase

instability into the afternoon and evening. Stronger showers may

contain brief downpours, small hail, and gusty winds, with a

dominant motion from south to north as they develop. Isolated

lightning is also possible, mostly south of a La Push to Tacoma

line, as well near the Cascades. Updated aviation and marine

sections follow below, along with the previous short/long term

discussions. Cullen

Sounds like the winner is the south part of the puget sound again. Hope to hear some thunder today!

Here's some blog post Mark and Cliff has written about the "Brookings Effect". One of the most extreme "Brookings Effect" heat waves of all time was back in early July 2008. July 8 and 9 was incredible, got to 108 on the 8th, then only down to 85 the next morning, then back up to 102 during the day. HOT! ♨️

Good luck sleeping that night. I would of needed an ice baths.

Memorial day weekend is the unofficial start of summer.

And the GFS totally disagrees... its way more zonal. And its been right in the long range more than the ECMWF lately.

I watched the video...pretty clear rotation wonder what caused that to happen...maybe air rising over the sound or something?

Radar is starting to show lots of small “popcorn” looking cells forming...getting some light rain again under partly sunny skies.

12z GFS looked really good for Memorial Day to the end of the month. But the ensembles trended much warmer.

Last night’s 00z EPS trended way warmer in the 7-10 range as well. So at this point I think it’s safe to expect a very hot end to the month, unfortunately.

That’s awesome looking. Definitely looking forward to some potential action later today!

I was kind of surprised to see a picture of a funnel cloud this morning just a couple miles away when it didn’t seem like there was too much action going on radar. Hopefully it’s a sign of a fun afternoon coming.

Yeah the GFS is on the cool side for Memorial Day while the GEM is on the warm side but not as warm/hot as the EURO. Right now I'd go with some type of blend with something like the GEM solution verifying.
