Looks like the El Nino is losing it's grip.  The GFS suite of models is similar.

With the GFS I think they applied a bias correction to the model and overdid it on the last "upgrade".  No other way to explain it always losing the scent of a cold snap when it gets into the 3 to 5 day range.

Oregon zoning laws make any lots extremely rare in these parts. However, the people who owned the 40 acre lot next to me were able to divide it based on the zoning laws of when they purchased the land originally, which was pre-1974. The were able to split it into 6 lots ranging from 4-11 acres. Cheapest one is $299k, the 11 acre lot is $449k, but they also already put a well on it.

Some of these people you say think "it's cool to live off the grid and take away beaches from everyone else" are local Hawaiians who have camped on some of these beaches on/off for decades...if not generations. They feel strongly about their indigenous right to live this way. Yes, it's against current laws. Yes, the government does come in and clear encampments - it's an ongoing struggle. Not diminishing the homeless issue here...which, like a lot of places is a big problem..just pointing out there is more context to what's going on in Hawai'i.

The GFS is improving a tiny bit on every run.  That model is just stupid in the short range with these blocks.

The GFS has that same little low that showed up on the ICON and brought the snow.  The GFS just doesn't deliver as much cold.  The GFS is a warm outlier now so this might be something.

GFS does have snow north of Seattle.  I think it's time for people to start noticing this possible event.  Good chance Seattle will get snow assuming the GFS is too warm.

For sure.   And what has happened to native Hawaiians in terms of being priced out of their home land is really sad.    It seems fairly obvious who is taking advantage of the situation.

The most likely outcome is an ECMWF / GFS blend.  The ECMWF has been so aggressive with the cold it keeps the moisture way south of us.  We're at least in the running with this.

I double checked and 400k is the going rate for a small parcel in town, but in the rural parts of the valley, you can still get a few acres for that price.  But who knows about zoning, utility hookups, etc.
