Super Bowl Weekend Major Snowstorm

Going ballistic right now! Heavy bands; keep getting stronger! Can't believe this. Last time I saw at 11:00 a.m. Sugar Grove in Kane had around 11" I'm close by so definitely looking at 11-13" now!

This storm keeps delivering!  Never have I seen this before where a storm during NOWCAST forecasting keeps intensifying in the modeling.  Normally you have a good idea 24 hours out, but this system has been a different caliber.

Around 9" here. Really tricky to measure this snowfall.

Got a head start on shoveling already. Flake size has gotten better since 11:30 or so, which is partially attributed to the lake I believe.

Not venturing far to take pictures today, but here is a three I took.

Tom, how does radar look for my area?  Seems to still be on the light side, and definitely pixie stuff, no big flakes.

It is filling in rapidly, wait about 30 minutes. It's pouring fixie flakes up here.  Won't complain...certainly the best snowfall rates right now.

Can anyone tell if lake enhancement is getting involved?

Hard to tell exactly underneath all the radar returns. Lake enhancement is usually hidden below the main cloud deck. The snow looks like lake effect snow I will say that.

What are we thinking of Lake Effect? LOT just updated snow fall graphic shows another 6-8" on the lake, 4-6" for the rest of the area. But, that is ending Tuesday and takes into account Monday nights possible snow fall. Either way looks like this will be the biggest storm for me since the GHD blizzard might end up with 15" plus whatever else we see this week (snowfall chances are on the rise)!

Don't think there will be any accumulating snow on Monday night....

Rip city in the Windy City...just got back from a stroll around the block and forgot to put on my ski goggles and mask.  The snow falling sideways with the wind feels like ice pellets hitting my face.  Def having Dejavu regarding the GHD 2011 Blizzard!

Snow covering all of Iowa yet and back out into Nebraska.

Even eastern CO had up to 9"! Far reaching storm.

It was about 3pm when the main Ground Hog Day blizzard got going on 02/01/11. It was lake effect snow in the morning then a short break after lunch before the main part moved in.
