You have to squint very hard to see this ending in a retrogression. Which is why it's going to take a little longer for the -PNA regime to set up.

In looking at European model high and low temperatures for Grand Rapids for the next 15 days shows highs mostly in the 20’s and lows in the teens there could be a cool down to highs in the teens and lows near zero on January 9th and 10th before having highs back in the 20’s. while cold this is not record cold but is much colder than the 40’s and 50’s of the last few days. As for snowfall we shall see. Of course this is all subject to change.

More big time snow in the southern Cascades. Crater Lake sitting at 120" snow depth right now, which is about where they usually peak in March. Of course much of that will settle and compact in the next couple weeks, but should be a solid 90-100" base.

Foothills should see snow on Wednesday morning. Maybe a rain snow mix in the lowlands.
