Well when I hit the hay last night I thought this was over in my location (Larch - just under 2000') as temp had really started to go up (19 to 25 in 2 hours). This morning I get up and check and it's back down to 20 and east wind still blowing harder than when I went to bed.

Sounds like a sensor issue. Other sensors in that area are in the upper 20's to 30.

I am back up to 31, the good news here is I will slowly creep above freezing overnight...Hopefully Salem does the same...I know PDX won't...ave youave

Have you made it above freezing this am?  I just touched 33 at 7am.  Same runny warm nose as yours.  Sucks.

Holy cow, what just happened?  In 30 min I have jumped from 31 to 36f.  That frickin warm nose always, always moves up the flanks of the Cascades and warms me up while everyone else is cold.  Sucks!

Being above freezing today is a blessing.

12z NAM, GFS and even the RPM are now also insisting that PDX sees accumulating snow tomorrow morning. Models show that the cold surface air doesn't get scurried out much tonight then winds shift back offshore around 4am tomorrow morning while the whole column goes back below freezing.

There has been zero mention of it by the NWS or any of the local mets which is probably a good thing. Surprise snow?? Thoughts?

Freezing rain has just started in Troutdale. Temp 28 DP 18 windE30 G40. Have a sick, sick feeling about today.

Yeah...this is not good. With widespread dew points still in the upper teens to low 20's we'll likely see a lot of wet-bulbing today keeping the temps down through the daylight hours.

Looks like above freezing at PDX,HIO, Aurora, and McMinnville now. That would appear to be good news.

Definitely odd to see such uniform temperatures across the valley, with the gorge wind providing some downslope warming at PDX.

30 here with moderate freezing rain beginning.

It seems like that temporary though, temps around the normal wind areas popped just briefly but all seem to be going down again with e. Cooling going on.

This is a bunch of crap.  Still 28 degrees at my house.  Eugene is a giant ice cube.  Light zr still coming down.

This happened in December as well - despite logic and predictions to the contrary, Eugene was the last to switch to rain and the biggest ice winner (loser?).  I would assume it is part of the same phenomenon that makes the south valley the last place to clear in an inversion pattern.  Without enough of a push to mix the atmosphere, slow moderation leaves cold pockets in the most sheltered locations.

Also missed by the models and mets: 850 mb flow is southeasterly at present (southwest is more typical), which is eroding the cold air faster on the west side of the valley while leaving cold pockets all along the east side from Eugene up through Sweet Home.
