00z GFS Hmmmm day 7-8 ridge shoved east to 132-130 W, but day 8, 9, 10 strengthening, amplifying and it slightly built west-northwestward to 135-137 W nosing back to 145-140 W. 500mb progression for the entire pattern looks a little odd. Bit of retrogression too.

Greenland Block retrograded too

 

00z doesn't look too bad. Not a lot of vodka cold air to work with on this side of the globe though.

We need that air over Siberia to move over the North Pole onto our side first. It'll happen eventually.

...HIGH WIND WATCH IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY

MORNING...

 

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a High Wind

Watch, which is in effect from Monday evening through Tuesday

morning.

 

* WIND...South winds of 25-35 MPH with gusts of 50-55 MPH.

 

* SOME AFFECTED LOCATIONS...Ocean Shores, Hoquiam, La Push and

Neah Bay. Friday Harbor, Oak Harbor, Bellingham and Everett.

 

* TIMING...Winds will increase Monday evening and the strongest

winds will likely occur late overnight Monday and into early

Tuesday morning.

 

* IMPACTS...Falling trees and limbs, power outages.

 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

 

A High Wind Watch means there is the potential for a hazardous

high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph...or gusts of

58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest

forecasts.

Ensemble show High Temps for Columbia Basin are near or below freezing and dewpoints in the 20s for a week or longer. :) I will welcome that.

 

THEN maybe sometime late in the week 2 period retrogression. Some optimism for that.

Some pretty wild spread on the ensembles tonight.  Not surprising after the crazy differences between the 18z and 0z GFS runs.  That is some CRAZY blocking on the 0z.

If it was about 15 degrees cooler we would be in the middle of a massive blizzard right now.

 

Flashback to Nov 2006 when that actually did happen on the 26th. Around here it went from 42F with rain showers at 4am to 29F with heavy snow by the evening. Probably was pretty similar over there.

The ECMWF temperature forecast indicates highs in the upper 30s for the Puget Sound area on days 9 and 10 with freezing low temps.

Day 10 Extensive cold pool and east winds on this run. Columbia Basin/Gorge very chilly.

 

 

The blocking is ridiculous!  This one might get into 1984-85 territory.  Our turn for big cold will come.  It would be amazing to see that anomaly in AZ verify.

Yup. It's coming! We just have be patient for another 10-14 days.

 

00z EPS in 40 minutes

 

6z GFS in 1 hour 39 minutes

It's going to take longer than 10-14 days.

 

No need to rush things.
