February Weather in the Pacific Northwest

I'll probably be right on the accumulating snow line again at 850', like I was last night.

The good news is that it's still just 33º -- the sun only just came out for the first time today -- so colder air than last night is already in place.

Yeah, its going to be a colder airmass too. I don't see why they are so bearish about snow chances down there. The models never actually showed much if anything down there last night. So it was pretty obvious they were going to bust.

The NWS has a much snowier forecast for ESPL for the end of the week.  Just saying categorical snow in the afternoon.  After that snow level varying from 100 to 1000 feet during the weekend.

There has to be a sharp transition zone nearby.

Light flurries here made for a fun dismissal from school. The kids were excited getting on the buses.

It's nice to see even the very lightest radar echoes making it to the ground. Bodes well for our chances if we can get into anything more significant on the radar later this evening.

37/23 so far today at PDX.

Tied a record MIN/MAX from 1957, and broke a record low from 1955 by two degrees!

Been awhile since we’ve seen a day with both a record low max and a record low. Especially with both records from the usually untouchable 1950s.

Ahh. Harbour air flys into downtown I would assume. It’s much snowier in the city itself. That would make sense.

Some interesting dynamics at play with this.  Some shear between the 850 and 700mb levels and the current S winds set up convergence potential later as the low drops south.  You never know in a case like this.

I think downtown is seeing better precip rates as the flow is from the Nw. Looks like a decently snowy afternoon in the city.

Yep almost 5 cm here at the Oak Bay Saanich border.  Incredible precip rates.  Just keeps coming.  Brings back memories of Feb 6, 2017.

Surprised SLE hit 41 today. Seems like they are always the warm spot now by 1-2 degrees. It didn't used to be that way...Maybe the encroaching UHI, maybe a poorly placed sensor.

It's actually dissipating up north

I wouldn't say that, but it doesn't seem to be moving south to me (if anything it's crept a bit north and the hole over King County has expanded from above and below).

Oh well, it's performing well in many areas to the north, and hopefully we'll still get our turn in the next few hours. If not I'll be passing out a lot of gift cards :(

Langley Hill radar shows instability out over the Pacific above the layer of isentropic lifting, much like yesterday. Should be enough dynamics with this shortwave to deliver similar precip totals as last night...question is exactly where.

Yeah lots of enhancement so far out over the Pacific. Areas to the north of where the low tracks should do well. I'm thinking widespread 3-6 inches PDX Metro.

. I can usually take your enthusiastic nature, but nothing is showing 3-6” widespread. What are you basing that forecast off of?
