June Weather in the Pacific Northwest

The transition from what we are now to that wouldn’t be very fun and would likely cause much hardship/stress on natural resources.

I don't think we are actually in a transition at all.

Beautiful morning.

I love clear mornings in June... to really experience the long days.

Not even 9 a.m. and the sun is higher than it is all day in December.

12Z GFS is about the same as the 00Z run for the weekend.

But its nice again by Monday... surprisingly sunny and dry on the 12Z run.     Lets just get this over with and back to summer.    :)

A rainy period lasting a week or more would be perfect.

The rain will be very helpful as I just planted 1/2 acre of grass seed. Two weeks of rain would be perfect. Unfortunately I will be baking in 95 degree heat this weekend in Oklahoma while it rains here.

How high are you?

I don’t even remember making those posts. So that probably answers your question.

However, I’ll need by brain for the next 10+ days starting tomorrow, so I won’t be lighting up the forum anytime soon. :(

Per 12Z ECMWF... rain focus is on Oregon on Saturday and primarily King County on Sunday.

And then it returns us to our regularly scheduled warm summer program very quickly next week.    :)

Hopefully it's a quick hitter. One (tenth of an inch) and done...

I hope its quick and very wet... if its going to be wet and chilly then it might as well be really wet. And then move out fast.

Looks like Friday-Sunday is the crappy period.

Getting back into the swing of things today, there is now clear evidence for -QBO influence on the width of the Pacific z-cell network, as cooling/easterly shear is descending to the tropopause.

Starting to wonder if the heat/ridging will underperform despite the upcoming round of Pacific forcing. We won’t have giant poleward NE-Pacific anticyclones this year, and the equatorward components are already increasing in ratio and potency.

Just a regular warm summer pattern will be fine... no reason for extreme heat.

And the warm off-equator SSTAs will promote a classical regime of destructive interference between the QBO/ENSO seasonality and climatology. At least for awhile.

Might be a gradient type year, with a tight, but more equatorward high leading to a cooler/wetter background state in BC/northern WA, and a warmer/drier regime in CA/OR.

So from now until Autumn or for the rest of the year?

It would nice to get rain here and there during the summer.

No, it shouldn’t be constant. More like a longer term tendency that could feature prominently in the seasonal averages.

The rain just never f***** stops!

Yeah...hopefully we have a summer this year. Rained for about 12hrs straight on Sunday up here. Also off and on yesterday morning. We are good for a few weeks.

Have a summer? The last five years have been some of the warmest, driest and longest summers on record. You act like we just went through a 1954 repeat.

Then some people wouldn't get a chance to "enjoy" it....

Yeah true.

18z GFS little drier for weekend into Monday. PSCZ well pronounced in King County.
