Donors who find Trump distasteful have been free to spread their money around to help his competitors. Establishment Republicans have made no secret of their hope that Trump will be convicted and thus removed from the equation without their having to take a stand against him.

“Socialism” can mean many things. Britons widely regard Clement Attlee as one of their greatest PM’s and he was a socialist. Tommy Douglas (socialist who served as Premier of Saskatchewan for 10 years, architect of universal health insurance) is widely admired in Canada.

Trump has said some nasty stuff, but so have the leftist college professors who cheered on the Hamas terrorist attack and said it was justified because Israel is a group of "oppressors" and the Palestinians are "oppressed". Lots of very smart Harvard students agreed. What they fail to realize is that Hamas itself is the primary oppressor of the Palestinian civilians. Canada's prime minister also gave a very nice eulogy to Fidel Castro. 

As for who's more authoritarian (red or blue) it's CALIFORNIA that had a mass exodus to Florida and other red states. You like immigrants. Immigrants usually immigrate to get away from authoritarian regimes.

Trump already had 4 years to pull off an Adolf Hitler, and nothing happened.

To the left however, not being able to murder unborn babies is AUTHORITARIANISM and Biden says it has severely set back our country. Basically they consider unborn babies to be private property of their mothers, just like the Democrats used to consider slaves to be private property.

I actually saw a picture of a Pro-Palestine protest that had the flag including the Hammer and Sickle, I have since lost that picture, but it is real.

Most of that article is actually a list of reasons why Maduro probably won’t go through with it (namely, it would piss a lot of people off, including even most left of centre governments in Latin America*).

 * And the latter should not be a big surprise, because Guyana itself has a left of centre government (democratically elected, unlike Venezuela’s).

But dictators don’t always behave logically. So lets hope that rational pursuit of self-interest wins in this one.

A few things on this....I've had a couple of friends/relatives to get told to get their affairs in order by American doctors only to find other treatment options.  One is in Montana (where access to medical care is rather limited) and he came to Seattle. He is still alive and kicking 10-15 years later.

Another was in Atlanta (where there is top of the line care).  He also happened to be a retired exec for a pharmaceutical company, and got the big pension and top level medical insurance for life, so he had the means to go anywhere in the world.

He was given about 3 months with a very rare, supposedly un-treatable cancer.  He chose to come to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance for his care.  He and his wife bought a condo out here and spent a better part of 3 years here receiving multiple rounds of treatment.  He died from pneumonia about 7 years after his diagnosis, but he was cancer free.  Granted, 98% of the population of this country does not have those kinds of resources, and would be goners.

So, it's not a uniquely Canadian problem...

That said, the lower BC area is experiencing a bit of a "crisis" in cancer care.  I live just across the border, and BC has entered into a contract with the medical group in our area and are now shipping patients down here.  It's not uncommon for Canadians to come down here for some medical care, but I guess the difference for these cancer patients is that it is "in network"

Another polling problem for Biden.

Just 49% of people age 18-29 say they "definitely" plan on voting in 2024, down from 57% in 2019. This includes just 38% of young black Americans (50% in 2019) and just 40% of young Hispanic Americans (56% in 2019). 

Young voters, especially young black voters, are a key constituency for Democrats. A low turnout among that group would hurt Biden more than it does Trump.

She definitely won't be pulling any MAGA Republicans over to her camp if she were to run. They hate her with a burning passion. If anything, she would probably pull moderates from both sides who are disenfranchised with both parties and don't want to see either Biden or Trump be president again, which is like 75% of the country.

2024 certainly feels like a year where a third party candidate could score significantly more votes than in past cycles. Probably not enough to matter, but maybe enough to make things even more interesting than they'll already be next year.

Cheney would not steal one vote from Trump. I cannot imagine what her constituency would be or that Manchin would run with such a divisive figure.

A 66% approval rating within his own party and a 21% approval rating with Independents, who most often than not are the voters that decide elections.

Obviously a lot can change between now and election day next year but holy moly, bleak picture for Biden right now.
