Good grief.

The area around DFW is under a Flash Flood Watch from Wednesday a.m. to Thursday a.m.

They say we'll get 2-3" of rain in 24 hrs. That's a lot of of heavy shower action. But we have done it over the past year.

We'll see. Very windy the past 2 days. 15-25 mph constantly.

Dewpoint 71*

NW Missouri into far SE Iowa is getting clobbered by heavy rain.  A couple days ago it appeared that stuff was going to be over us this evening.

There's a pretty tight circulation passing just south of Lawrence, KS, headed toward the western KC area.  A small debris signature just popped on radar.

I thought it is supposed to lift northeast. It does look like it is trying to lift northeast on radar.

Destructive tornado going right over the Southeastern residential areas of Lawrence right now. Devastating.

The circulation seems to have weakened some and there is no debris signature at the moment.

Flooding may be the word of the year for the center of the country.

Torrential rains in Oklahoma over the past two weeks have brought the Arkansas River in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma to its highest water level ever recorded. Near the Oklahoma border at Fort Smith, Arkansas (population 300,000), the river rose to two feet above its previous all-time high on Tuesday morning, and was predicted to rise at least another two feet before cresting on Wednesday. The river also hit a record high on Friday at Ponca City, Oklahoma, about 70 miles upriver from Fort Smith.

Between those two locations, at Muskogee, Oklahoma, the river crested on Sunday at its second highest level on record. All-time record crests are predicted over the next week along a 100-mile stretch of the river extending from Fort Smith to just upstream from Little Rock, Arkansas. At Little Rock, the crest is predicted to be the sixth highest on record, and the highest since 1990. On Tuesday afternoon, two levees along the Arkansas River in Arkansas were overtopped, flooding farmlands, according to katv.com.

Now getting a good moderate rain now. Looks like this rain should last at least a couple more hours, with more later tonight according to the HRRR.

Radar suggests the rain is heavier than it really is.  I would call it light to moderate.

Update:  Yeah, solid moderate now.  More general rain in a spring full of it.

Do you know what the wettest May on record in Cedar Rapids is? My rainfall total so far is 7.24"

Just 0.16”. Once again, while we continue to get more rain, were actually still underachieving. However, I can’t be too mad. As I said before, this is probably the best outcome for my recently planted garden. If we’re not going to get severe storms, this is probably for the best.

There's a new tornado trying to spin up northeast of KC.

I'm up to about 7.5" this month.  Looking at my records going back to 2007, my wettest May was 8.06" in 2013.

There must have been some heavier cells that moved over your area this morning. I am up to 0.92" for the day. Do you think we are done with the rain, or could some of those storms in NW Missouri make it up here?

The HRRR has the sw Iowa convection fading to some light rain as it reaches our area.  Any storms should pass well south.

Finished with 0.99" for a total here. That is a bit better than I was expecting because the models had the best rain south, but we still got a good amount here. This brings my rainfall total for the month of May so far to 7.55". We may still add to that today and tomorrow.

I heard that KCI airport had suspended flights for a time due to flying debris falling out of the sky from nearly 20 mi away!  Pretty wild stuff right there.  Hope our KC members are safe and sound.

0.22” after 12:00am. 1.89” storm total.

I’m hoping it dries off soon for the farmers sake especially!

Yep, its been pretty darn wet here as well. We need a dry pattern to develop for a change.

Michigan has great weather, especially Spring and Summer. We are just in a very ugly pattern. Hopefully, it will break soon. Too much rain lately.
