I had to skip a couple of pages, so I don't know if this was commented on, but looks like MIchael Snyder is NOT on board at this time.  He's not ruling it out completely, but does not see a proper alignment of the stars for anything more than things cooling off and mountain snow.

I'm not really feeling it either.  I don't know if that is a protection mechanism for myself knowing we are in a Nino, but I almost feel like we need a pool to figure out how close we get to "go time" before the rug pull happens.

I'm just glad to get back to at least having it drop into the 30's at night.

Happy New Year everybody!!!!

Don’t watch Michael anymore. He said on Twitter he doesn’t care how many die in Gaza. He’s an a**

Lol the smoke at the space needle was horrendous for the fireworks.

Dummies launched really smokey fireworks at the beginning of the show which caused the rest of the show to be completely blocked.

I'm betting they were expecting less stagnant air and the smoke would move. Screenshot_20240101-001602.thumb.png.9197b04b5b2e802441f0c6ec42648e73.png

If someone asked me to make up a hypothetical 500mb chart to create the biggest snow event in PNW history, that is very close to the exact thing I would draw.

Any snow?

If that run went out a couple more frames, that setup would basically guarantee multiple feet for the entire PNW I think (minus anyone in the Olympic rain shadow, RIP). It has -20C 850mb temps vomiting out over the ocean just north of Vancouver Island, and strong onshore flow right into our coast, setting up for the sea effect snow event of the century.

The EPS was actually pretty darn good.  More really cold members than any run so far and the highest snowfall for SEA of any run so far.  A few quite mild members kind of skewed the look of the 500mb pattern to look less impressive.

It's in the process of snowing at the end.  Wickedly cold air just entering WA.

That's pretty much Jan 1969 right there.

There have been a lot of analogs from the 1968 through 1973 period lately as well as a lot of 1988-89 of all winters.  Pretty interesting.
