Super Bowl Weekend Major Snowstorm

Now way i get another 8" like GFS is showing. Thats laughable. There are pockets of dry air on radar and unfortunatly that has really cut into my snowfall.

Ya under a dry slot at the moment But looks like filling in pretty quick. Not losing hope yet. Need to get dressed see how much we have so far.

I just measured 8.5-9" here and that is still after compaction. The winds have really kicked up now, but earlier it looked like there was 2" stuck on all the tree branches. We have almost 20k without power in the area this morning as well from the wet snow. Hope to squeeze out another 1" and make it close to 10". A nice storm indeed! I almost forgot what it's like to have one of these and better yet to even be able to track one from run to run for several days. It's been a fun couple of days of model watching too!

Right under that defo band at the moment....

How much do you have thus far?  I also have to agree with you regarding the heaviest band of snow being shifted farther north.  It has been the trend with this system and by taking a glance at the radar, it certainly seems that places north of I-80/88 will get the highest amounts, esp Lake/McHenry, DuPage/Cook counties in N IL.

Just heard LOT may be expanding the Blizzard Warning out West...

I just measured 7.6 inches here in Buffalo Grove.

I think we will do very good.  I'd guess snowfall rates are averaging about 3/4 - 1.0" per hour.  We still have over 12 hours to go!  15" seems doable, what do you think???  This storm may surpass last years NYE storm.

We will easily get over a foot. 15 inches definitely seems doable.

Roads are ice packed and drifts are 3-5'! I went out and attempted to measure and came up with around 7". Blizzard conditions are occurring and Hastings won't be issuing a warning because storm is winding down for us. Awesome storm! Enjoy it everyone, I'll be posting pictures when I can.

Here is what Hastings said earlier this morning.

hope it picks up soon.  Falling lightly here in Elmhurst.

Might taper down for a bit, but the defo band for this system is really starting to take shape.  Just look at whats happening in C IA/E IA.  Even W IL is filling in nicely.  The ULL is still oriented way back in IA so plenty more snow on the way.

This storm is taking a picture perfect track for IA/N IL/N IN/S MI...haven't seen a storm like this in years.  It is very rare to see back to back years with 15"+ snowfalls in Chicago (average 15" snows are 1 in ever 15 years).  We should be very appreciative for what Mother Nature has given us.

And you were the first to call it
