Super Bowl Weekend Major Snowstorm

Tom

Picked up 1.8" in the last hour...storm total over 15" easy now...the snow is very characteristic of LES, very dry and powdery.  Gotta finish shoveling the driveway.  I'll post some photos I just took and it actually go dark outside during some heavy bursts!  These cloud tops must be really high.

Snow slackened off a bit here. Drifting is really bad out there, making it very hard to measure. I had 11.7" on my snow board, but is probably not exact.

Saw this report, which is the nearest location to me. Not sure how accurate it is, but could be correct.

Picked up another 1.0-1.5 in the last hour...easily broke past 15"...when I cleared my front driveway during the 1st round it had about 7"(compacted), second round 7.5"...my deck out in back has a 14" depth (compacted, never been touched).  The fact that the second round was fluffier than the first, you can prob add another 0.5" to the first round from compacting overnight.  So 15" sounds about right if you average out the front/back.  Prob tack on another 2-4" by midnight so 16-20" might bode well.

Lehs picking up near MKE right now...winds are slowly starting to shift more NNE from the NE.  I'm kinda excited to see what this lake plume will look like.  Skilling's RPM model had it cranking around midnight.

Tom, seeing that I saw close to what his RPM showed for additional snowfall from 2:20 p.m. onward today, I am thinking his RPM will win out and we will see that lake plume develop and pummel the city; wonder how far inland it will go. Just got a report from my dad that the police have shut down 47 going W.

O'Hare 5:55pm update is now at 14.2. Someone must have called!

Sounds better...I think officially ORD will crack 18"...seeing the way things are trending up north near MKE, winds will start to fly over more and more open lake waters.  Here is what they are doing now....

I don't see it going that far inland, maybe eastern DeKalb/McHenry, but Cook/Lake are golden...

Here are pictures from earlier around 4:30pm.  Notice how some of them had a darker tone to them when the snow was coming down very heavily.

The last one was just taken about 5 min ago at 6:20...big flakes coming down...sitting under a 25dbz band.

Just cleared the measuring deck and picked up another 1.5"(on avg) in the last hour!  There has to be close 17" totals right now.  These fat flakes have been relentless.  Extremely powdery and essential to measure every hour now.  The Lake Machine is kicking in!  Banding becoming evident up/down the WI/IL shoreline.

I noticed this from the afternoon KLOT discussion:

THE THREAT OF SIGNIFICANT LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS LOOKS LOW ON THE BACK SIDE OF
THIS SYSTEM...AS THE THERMODYNAMIC SETUP OVER THE LAKE IS NOT LOOKING
AS GOOD. WITH THIS IN MIND...ANY LINGERING LAKE INDUCED SNOW SHOWERS
SHOULD REMAIN LIGHT...SO ANY ADDITIONAL ACCUMULATIONS ACROSS
NORTHEASTERN ILLINOIS/NORTHWESTERN INDIANA AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT
SHOULD GENERALLY REMAIN UNDER AN INCH.

What do you guys think out there?

Currently at 12.4" and still coming down. I might be heading for 15 to 20" in total. My car is almost buried. Half way through the doors.

#'s don't lie...back deck is sitting at 16" (with compaction)...easily over 17"...just measured 1.1" in the past hour.  I left a piece of the front driveway snow covered with the second batch and its up to 9.5-10" which means since 5:30 it accumulated roughly 2.0-2.5".

Look at the band just sitting over N Cook.  Gotta love it!
