Not sure why... but there is nothing falling in Astoria despite it being cold enough and the radar showing precip there.

Astoria is not showing snow because the BR shows no precipitation ... it's virga basically at 6k but very close to the south.

The current radar seems to show the precipitation coming at us better than that model. Interesting how the model shows the precipitation like a wave crashing on the cold air to the north and then dissipating. I really hope it is wrong. Seems like yesterday it didn't give any of us, Olympia and north, any snow.

If clouds are going to come it better snow no need to have clouds that keep the temps up tonight and won't drop snow.

Still the cold dry air above. At least the virga is lowering temps as it raises the humidity.

Yup, should hit soon.  Wouldn't be surprised if it's starting now.

Per traffic cams, it does seem to be snowing (and heavily) in Warrenton, about 10 miles away. It took about 15 minutes after echoes were over me in Portland for the snow to reach the ground.

Statements

Metro Vancouver

4:01 PM PST Friday 07 February 2014

Special weather statement for

Metro Vancouver issued

Weekend weather update.

A complex weather system is headed for the South Coast of British Columbia this weekend. The cold Arctic air of the past week will be replaced by milder Pacific air by Tuesday of next week.

At present it appears snow is likely Sunday followed by a period of freezing rain in some areas late Monday. By Tuesday the warmer Pacific air will bring significant rain.

The fine details of this process are often not predictable until the day of the storm, if at all. The regions affected, the amount of snow that falls prior to the change to freezing rain, and the duration of the freezing rain are the forecast challenges.

A variety of weather warnings are possible. Please follow the Environment Canada forecasts and warnings at the url noted below.

The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended.

Please monitor the latest forecasts and warnings from Environment Canada at www.weatheroffice.gc.ca.

Yeah completely shocking. I picked up a quick inch and then it turned to very wet snow and then a rain snow mix. Temp hanging right at 33. Very thin layer of warm air as Silverton is at 26 and Horse Creek at 3300' is 29.

I won't lie. Its extremely depressing.

A historic event for the valley. It has actually happened before, but a different situation. March 21, 2012 the snow turned to rain here for several hours while it continued to snow in the valley, but it turned back to snow and dumped an additional 8" that evening...Don't see that happening today.

Judging by that, I think he will switch back to snow when the low passes.

If not, then we have to deal with a grumpy, pessimistic Andrew all Spring Summer and Fall. So I am pulling for him. :)

Just think of what my family is dealing with right now.

You had fun while it lasted... it just a matter of 24 hours now anyways.    It will be raining all of next week there.

We need a snow geek intervention team to console fellow geeks when they are about to snap because of weather disasters. Should be able to get that setup under FEMA. In the meantime repeat. This too shall pass. I will have more snow.

I really haven't had that much precip today either. Even if it was all snow I'd only probably have 2" or so.

Actually... if you run the WRF loop it appears that he might be done for good.   Remember he gets no outflow advantage.

It just blows my mind that it's 24 and snowing in Eugene but Andrew is getting rain. How is it not ZR at EUG right now? I know the low level cold extends down the valley but the upper levels are warm above Eugene according to that map.

Don't worry... you have until Monday morning at least.   It will warm up all the way to Vancouver BC before you scour out there.
