August 2015 in the Pacific Northwest

He was born October 5, 1949.

That was a VERY chilly autumn month in the PNW. Fall balls inside your body cavity cold!!

Combine that with the fact fall 1949 was a strong nino and coming off one of our hottest summers on record and I think Mr. James is onto something!

My preferences can beat up your preferences’ dad.

Wait a minute!! I thought only cool summers were supposed to invariably lead to toasty Sept/Octobers?

His observations of this summer are reminiscent of a Blazer fan watching another season circle the drain.

Someday things will turn around. Maybe next year.

I hear Olympia high school's basketball team has been kicking a** the past few years, though. So there's always that.

Take it as it comes, lil' brudder.

It's lovely outside by the way. In season, too!

Just took a nice walk down at the Tualitan River wildlife refuge, big brudder.

Just because I am disturbed by the ease with which we are setting new warm records every month doesn't mean I can't enjoy a nice warm evening!

This summer on the heels of last has led me to decide that summer is my least favorite season.

July's PDO comes in at 1.84.

That's 11 in a row at 1 or above. This ties the record set twice in 1940 and again in 1941 when we ripped off an incredible 22 out of 23. Can we break the record? Come on, fellas. Let's go for it!

Pretty good chance we see a 1934-35 type winter next year. Expect a very cold mid January guys.

Pretty close to a big event around the Holidays that year too.  A lot of heavy wet snow fell on parts of SW BC but most of the arctic air was held just east of the coast.

The January event was followed by a pretty impressive rain train, I imagine some pretty major flooding resulted.

Hope you're ok waiting until November. Fall ball!

We drove out to Bald Peak south of Forest Grove last night. Got a great show. Did you end up going to the Stonehenge Memorial near Maryhill? That's where we watched the Perseids from last year.

Ice burn's back!

Eh...I'll be heading to Alaska in a few weeks...Guaranteed fall???  I hope so.

We went to an abandoned house outside of The Dalles...nice quite place.  On the way there, the traffic into Rooster Rock SP was backed up onto the freeway.

Here's a pic of that house from back in March while we were aurora watching.
