I'm up to 33.3F and the road slush is quickly melting. HIO just hit 34F and switched back to rain. hmmm.

Looks like the center of the low is gonna pass just south of SLE.

Some modest WAA w/ the approach of the low. Should cease upon its departure to the east.

Yeah, we no longer have a mix here but the temp is hanging pretty much frozen, just not freezing.

Yeah, it coincided exactly with the arrival of these heavier echoes. Hopefully the backside of the low and the wraparound later will lead to better accumulation for the whole metro area late tonight or early AM.

3km NAM seems to depict the currently reality decently well. It shows that west vs east snow divide pretty well.

Looks like we may need to wait until the low passes to get things to cool off a bit more and get some decent wraparound precip early AM.

Fred had a meltdown a few weeks back after he made what boiled down to one comment in the politics sandbox. A long time member threatened to walk over it which I assume was the trigger to step away.

So he's done with the site for good? I fcuking hate discussing politics. It has caused family members to not talk with one another for years. Everyone has their opinions, but that's all they are. Sometimes it's just best to not get into it, period. That's what I do and I have friends and family on both sides of the spectrum because of it.

With such a delicate setup, any gradients whatsoever will probably kill any kind of snowfall at the lowest levels.

He’s still involved at serious arm’s length from what I’ve gathered, but he’s stepped away from the day to day entirely.

Why does that show a sharp cutoff for the south valley? It's pouring here and has been raining for like 24 hours.

Yeah, the WAA with the low coming near pushed me up to 34F and I changed over to mostly rain, now the temp is coming back down to 33.4F and is turning back to mostly snow. Not much margin for error. Still a fascinating event.

These 3 locations are all within a couple of miles of each other but progressively closer to the coast range, going from HIO to Forest Grove.  Fun to watch the microclimates in action.

Some of these mesoscales show it well-- scattered snow until the low passes close with heavy rates, and a switchover around 4-ish. Except far west areas which are just getting hammered.

As an addendum I'd imagine 26 will be a mess tomorrow with downed branches if these predictions are remotely true.

Its lying, the PDX radar doesn't see very well over EUG unless the echoes are very very tall. The Medford radar is also stupidly located and won't pick this up well either.

Sylvan looks like a winter wonderland w snow clearly accumulating on the highway. Areas further east seem to be doing that same interestingly enough.

Yeah here in downtown Springfield/Glenwood/UofO areas it's quite blustery with decent southerly winds. I don't think I've ever been on the northern end of one of these things where people say there can be something called "blowing snow" in Dec-Jan.
