Hey newbie, welcome aboard! Perfect timing as I was hoping for somebody west of me to post some current qpf stat's etc. Your area's looking great this winter. Have fun in here. see ya around..

Thanks for the welcome! Happy to fill in any data from this side of the pond! Rain and more rain right now. Hoping you're right for a real winter this year - last year was utterly depressing!

Well, I was one of the fortunate peeps that actually got a winter, and above normal snow fall no less. Ofc, it was a book-end season with most of the snow falling in Nov and late Feb. Dec and Jan mostly blew chunks and what snow came went just as quickly - zero staying power. It can get worse, but let's not go there!

Most will improve on this no doubt:

My area received a widespread soaker overnight.  Models wavered in the 0.50-1.00" qpf range, but we ended up getting 1.41".  It has been a very dry month, so it was welcome.

Neither the GFS nor Euro has another freeze chance through the first week of November.  It's nice to see the flowers going so long.

And my tomato plants, at this rate I might have them for Thanksgiving!! We had one freeze, I covered my plants though and they survived.

I guess the models weren't over playing the idea of flakes flying today/tonight!  Wonder if it continues over night and if someone posts some pictures.

Not too far north of Grand Rapids (if I understand correctly)

Hi everyone, new guy here at the forum, have been lurking aorund for a few months and decided to finally join. I don't know much about the science of weather, but I sure do enjoy observing it and was delighted to find some cold and snow lovers! I am outside of Milwaukee - it's been raining steadily here since about midnight - inch and a half so far, 45 degrees and heavy grey skies, leaves falling from the trees. A great day, the only thing that could have made it better were if it were coming down as snow rather than rain!

Welcome aboard. You chose the correct weather forum. You will learn a lot about weather on here.

Btw: I saw my first flakes today!!!!

Welcome aboard! We have several S WI posters in and around MKE and Madison. I think you'll find this board to be a pleasant experience. From what I hear, this is a rather peaceful forum compared to others. Looking forward to your input.

I saw parts of S WI received over 2" of rainfall. Pretty wet Autumn system. We were getting kinda dry of late.

Nearly 1.5" qpf at ORD officially. Its been pouring heavily on and off. Quite the soaker today. Many leaves have fallen off the trees, I presume there are some clogged sewers in the neighborhood. Looks and feels like a typical late October day. Hope Game 2 in Cleveland doesn't get any rain delays!

Looking forward to a warm, windy weekend for World Series baseball!  Wrigleyville will be insane.  Hope they can win the series at home, but it will be tough.  The wind will be blowing out on Fri, but Sat there may be a front nearby...could Schwarber hit another bomb???

Yesterday’s high here in Grand Rapids of 40° was the coldest high since April 9th high of 36° when we had 5” of snow on the ground. While many areas received snow, I did not see any here nor was there any reported at the airport. Over in Bay City my mother in reported they had huge flacks and at times it covered the ground.  Here at my house I received 0.95” of rain. At the airport, the report was 0.89” and that is a new record for the date.  So far this month GRR has reported 6.04” Since September 1st the total is 8.44” and for the year GRR is now at 39.98”

Meanwhile, a mere 2 counties south, Battle Creek still has a small deficit even after yesterday's system. Can you share some of that down my way? If this plays out similar to '08-09, your area will continue to be in the sweet spot (max qpf) with these systems coming from the west.

Anybody follow DT? He makes some very good meteorological points in ways that make people wanna puke and hurl (things at him)

Dude is known to be rude and obnoxious, but sometimes I find his brand of crude humor hilarious, especially when he's cutting up TWC's warm bias, NOAA's outlooks, and the like.

This sums it up pretty well, by a 4 to 1 margin, people agreed

Sitting at 70F/60F...touch of humidity in the air with heavy overcast.  I actually picked a few straggling raspberries from the garden!

Cold front sliding down across the IL/WI border ATM.  It'll be chilly by the time the Game 4 of the WS begins.

Another 75F today, with generally light wind.  I'm taking advantage of this pleasant stretch by trying to grow some new grass in the part of my lawn that was ruined by grubs this summer.  Normally, late October/early November would be too late.

Had another nice soaking last night and picked up .50" of rainfall.  We have a heavy overcast with a light wind out of the NNE.  I hope the weather is not a sign of the mood Cub's fans will endure later tonight.  On the verge of elimination, could they perform a historic comeback in the series???

BTW, next Sunday we roll our clocks back an hour.  Guess what that means, the models come in an hour earlier!  Don't have to stay up till 2:00am for the Euro to fully load!  Hahaha...

It’s now October 30th and there are still many trees in the Grand Rapids metro area that still have a lot of leaves on them.  In fact, I cannot remember a year this late where so many tress still had so many leaves on them. Its something that I don’t keep a record on but just using Halloween as a guide line  I know a lot of that could have to do the fact that GRR (the airport) has not gotten colder than 33 yet this year.  This year will be the latest for the first 32° day at GRR since 1940 (November 6th) the latest date was in 1918 when it did not happen until November 14th.  Since 1892 Grand Rapids has only had 7 years where the first 32° date did not happen until November. It should be remembered in the early years the official readings were taken downtown. Also we had two locations for the airport (the first one was on 36th street} and then the current airport  Here are the years 1940, 1938, 1932, 1927, 1918, 1916 and 1897.

Another 75F today, with generally light wind.  I'm taking advantage of this pleasant stretch by trying to grow some new grass in the part of my lawn that was ruined by grubs this summer.  Normally, late October/early November would be too late.

I had one of those projects this summer too. With May and June being totally dry (.5" qpf) I had to water regularly to get anything to germinate. Fortunately July got much wetter and it did better. But Sept and October have been stellar and the rest of the seeds that weren't doing much suddenly came to life. Wish we had a couple more months of this, I'd tackle another couple smaller zones that need some repairs. Looks like they'll wait til spring now.

We scored a bit more than that around 6 am. Was awoken by some really nice T-showers on October 30th! Love it!
