Tom - do you think we have a shot at breaking a record for longest stretch not dropping below 32 in January?  Looks like the next 7 days will be AOB - not sure what lies beyond that.

I am about to break a record here for approaching more than 3 or 4X 50F so far this month. NOAA saids it rarely happens, but if it does, it usually occurs every ten years or so. Unreal!

Another cloudy, dismal, but, dry day here in SMI. I cant even remember when was the last time I saw the sun. Believe it or not, my subdivision still has patches of snow at a few areas. They just don't wanna melt.

 

Btw: My grandfather once told me that when snow does not melt, it usually waits for the new snow to come.

Actually, it was partly to mostly cloudy and then towards the end of the day, it cleared out. I had a crystal clear moon, but neva saw the full blown sun during that day. I must have had a disturbance pass on by or something. Maybe a weak trough.

Detroit debris effect ftl. Y'all used up a 2 year supply of sunny days last summer anyways. What'd ya expect??

Yup .....Tbh.....we had so many sunny days last summer, which had me lost count at some point. One thing is for sure, overall, weatherwise last summer was great. Lots of great outdoor activities.

Yep, warmth extending all the way into the northern woods/UP.  Snowmobile trails will take a beating with the dew points climbing throughout the week.  Throw the sun into the mix and it'll really get sloppy.

The sun has mad an appearance, peaking in and out of the clouds here in Chitown.  It's official, Pot Hole season has begun...dun dun dun...the big Jan Thaw is going to produce some nasty pot holes over the coming week or so.

Currently @37F at 10:00pm. My average high this time of the year is 30F. So, as you can see....this is way above average. I have lows expected ta be in the 40s ova the weekend and highs in the 50s. This is some wacky weather.

That, verbatim is not bad over our way on the surface. But the way we've been getting to avg temps has featured the "cold & dry, warm & wet" scenario playing over and over again. The real question is, can we break that pattern and get some cold with the wet?

Here's another beef with this lame-azz pattern, we aren't getting any HP's strong enough to clear things off. Just yesterday, this graphic had mostly sunny for today. Now look. Doesn't get any more dismal.

The sun finally came out today...it felt so good having the sunshine hit you.  Although, clouds did stick around, it made the skies turn into partly cloudy.

Another 0.31" of rain today has me up to 1.59" of rain this month.  The weather is very early March-like.

A dreary, wet, gloomy, foggy, dismal, chilly day in SMI. Temps remained in  the upper 30s. This month has totally sucked. Rain, rain and rain with temps in the 30s or 40s and ton of cloudy days. UGH!

The sun is out, fog has cleared and temps are rising into the mid 50's today.  If you would have told me its Jan 21st in Chicago with damp, wet, brown grass I'd have to say to you its more like the weather you see in the deep south.  The LRC's warm cycle is on its tail end as we transition into the colder pattern next week.

Another 8 feet of snow possible for the Sierra Nevada this weekend

It's great to see the mountains of Arizona get blasted with cold storm systems dumping feet of snow.  The past 3 Winters have been non existent in the southwest and had endured a snow drought.  The ski resorts are ecstatic to see this much snow.  Current snow depths around the area are in the 2-6 Feet range!

Btw: the record low for last night in my area was -20F set back in 1994. Nowhere near that.

Well, well, well, the sun  has decided ta make an appearance. It almost feels humid outside and has a haze in the sky going on. Unbelievable weather in January we are having. I was outside in shorts and a t-shirt.

I agree. Once February is finished, then, spring mode starts developing for me. Also, the hour goes ahead 1 hour in March, longer days, higha sun angle and etc, so snow tends not to stick around as much as it would in D,J and F.

It's been like 11 out of 12 days categorized as cloudy days here. Felt like living in the PAC NW. Depressing. If it's going to torch, much better with sunny skies! Feels like mid April out there today. Going to enjoy it while it lasts.

Today was absolutely nice I must say. The sun came out and temps soared ta near 59F. Very impressive for January standards.
