Rain/Snow mix for about three hours now. A couple of changeovers to snow but those only lasted a few minutes. So close.

Been staying all snow here. 33.2 deg.

Set an alarm for 4:45 to check on the snow and woke up to 33 degrees with moderate to almost heavy snow.

Grass has turned white in the last few minutes  :D

Congratulations to everyone on their first snow of the season. It missed me over here. Nothing but rain and 35* allllllllllll day yesterday and most of the night. Which is fine because now it’s 22 outside and everything is frozen solid. Setting the stage for the next round of snow that hopefully falls here that sticks abd stays.

This is one of the earliest accumulating snows I've ever seen in my lifetime, which includes living in the Midwest.

Wow... I saw accumulating snow in Minnesota as early as September 25th.

The biggest snowstorm ever in Minneapolis started on Halloween in 1991.    I remember it well... over 3 feet by time it was over.

And Wisconsin has already seen significant snow this week per my family on facebook.    Here is a pic my Aunt posted this week in north central Wisconsin...

Just in locations where I've lived before. Earliest significant snowfall I saw was just before Halloween when I was young. I think 4 or 5" fell. Other than that Octobers have been a dud for snowfall even in southern WI.

A small dusting of snow here in the last hour.    I have a mobile marine guy coming to winterize our boat this morning and getting nervous!   I called 3 weeks ago for an appointment on a day when it was warm and sunny.   <_>

I love the upper midwest. We were considering buying a house in Duluth, but my wife did too much research on the cold winters and talked her way out of moving there. I love it.

What a bizarre SSTA signature. Have to consider the possibility this might be the most east-based La Niña system ever recorded during the month of November.

cdas-sflux_ssta_relative_global_1.png

And yet we're seeing a pattern that is complete opposite of an east based La Niña across North America

What do the records show for October 28, 1991? I remember getting about 4 inches of snow in the Sehome area that day. Only snow we had all winter (el-Nino)

The official reports, at least according to the WA state climate summary for October 1991:

3.0" at Olga

2.5" at Bellingham 3SSW

2.0" at BLI

2.0" at Sedro Woolley

1.5" at Blaine

Duluth is crazy for cold and snow... big difference between Duluth and Minneapolis.

That is a serious east based Nina.

At 32.7 deg, with a few flurries right now. Post a few pics later.

Things warmed up here a bit overnight once the snow stopped and it looks like there was quite a bit of melting, but it's still pretty cool to wake up to snow on the ground at the start of November. Many of the trees haven't lost their leaves. The air has dried off a bit now too so what's left of the snow is turning pretty crunchy.
