March Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Not normal for this area in April?

Not that I’m aware of. Andrew or Demitri would probably have more concrete answers there.

This pattern certainly isn’t normal, either. The EPS control run for 4/6-4/11 is just comical looking across the WHEM.

I own two Subaru Foresters. One is a 2011 and I blew the engine a year ago...Its been sitting in my Dad's driveway for the past year...Never had a problem with it before that...I was probably to hard on it.

I've been driving a 1999 Forester since then, while I decide whether to fix the 2011 or cut my losses. Get's me from point A to point B.

My significant other has an Outback. She likes it.

I used to have a 2004 Forester, loved it. Sold it when I got the 2011. They are incredible in the snow, I have never had any problems in the snow, and you know how much it snows up here.

Running through the 00Z GFS precip loop... there is really not much precip over the next 6 days.  One week from today is the next widespread rain event.    That event looks like a very mild April rain.

Snow in April in NE Oklahoma would be incredibly rare.

It snowed on the evening of April 5, 2007 for several hours, and at the time it was my understanding that was the latest snow on record...

My mother had passed the day before and I was preparing to fly back to Oregon for the funeral the next morning, so I don't remember much about it, other than it snowed for several hours and there was a dusting.

I flew back to Oregon, my baseball team went up to York, NE where it was unbelievably cold.

https://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KJYR/2007/4/6/MonthlyHistory.html?&reqdb.zip=&reqdb.magic=&reqdb.wmo=

We had about 6" of snow on March 20, 2010 when I was living out there.

Just looked it up. Latest measurable snowfall on record for Tulsa, OK was April 12, 1957.

Just looked this day up...27 with light snow at 1pm...Wow.

Nice mild, dry night with the crickets chirping out there... roof open at Safeco Field for the opener... and the Mariners get a win against the Indians.    :)

Nice win. The announcers on the radio before the game predicted Cruz would homer off Kluber and Diaz would get the save. Worked out well...

Dry here too...Down to 37, so not really mild.

51 at SEA... 49 here.

We made it to 56 after a low of 30 this morning. Still a little snow in the shade, and some piles by the shop where it all slid off the roof.

I would agree.

Notice how the drier area is farther east in Skagit County and extreme northwestern Snohomish County on the annual rainfall map but a little to the south its right up against the water. That is a reflection of the typical placement of the c-zone.

rainfall_map.jpg

There are some more detailed precip maps that you can fine online that are really interesting to look at and really show the features even within the seattle area. One of the driest locations east of the Puget Sound is actually northwest seattle. That area gets more than a third less rain than Issaquah which lies in that finger of higher annual precipitation that stretches along i90 corridor from the mountains nearly to lake Washington. You would think with all the weather stations now wunderground could create some very detailed maps.

Since when do crickets come out in March? I didn’t even hear them in July there.

As for mild..a swampy 72F here as of 140AM. No crickets but it smells nice and spring-like. We’re sleeping with the window open.

That’d be my guess, especially given the chilly February you guys just had. IIRC, it takes most species of cricket at least two months to mature and develop the ability to chirp, but I could be wrong about that.

The only time I’ve ever heard crickets chirping in March was in Florida. They don’t start up here until July, and don’t reach full maturity until September.

I actually like the older body style better. And always prefer a manual.

The only criticism people have of pre-2005ish Foresters is they can be very loud...Noticed that with my old 04', haven't noticed with the 99'.

Impressively cold air mass coming Sunday night/Monday.

I was just noticing that. North of Seattle will see sub 522 thickness. Pretty unusual for early April. Even down here it gets pretty chilly.

Chillier morning than expected down here, low of 33.

Eugene will probably end up with something close to a -3.5 departure for March.

Unless I get a surprise freeze tonight I will end March with 23, which ties the number I had in 2012.

Eugene will probably end up with something close to a -3.5 departure for March.

Unless I get a surprise freeze tonight I will end March with 23, which ties the number I had in 2012.

Wow. OLM has a -2.3 going, though the low in the mid 40s this AM is gonna hurt.

Eugene made it into the mid-30s this morning. They even pulled off a -1 departure yesterday somehow.

Foggy down here at 300', but just another 300' up the sun is out...

That's a really cool shot.

No sun up this way yet.
