April Weather in the Pacific Northwest

The new ECMWF seasonals just came out. Lots of ridging from May to October. Ridging dominates every month with it being directly overhead or close by. Looks like it will be dry as well. I'll post maps when I get home tonight.

It seems pretty silly to live somewhere where you absolutely detest climo 10 months out of the year just for two months that you like. I’m sure you and Randy are outliers there. Pretty hard to imagine a region of millions of people (and growing) who all feel that way. If that’s true then that’s pretty sad.

Scott Sistek is the author... he is the 'Jesse' of KOMO news.    He loves rain and hates warmth.    :)

And I don't detest the weather for 10 months.

But I do complain when its much more persistently wet than usual as was the case in 2015-16 and in the spring of 2017.     And that is how April 2018 is playing out as well.

You never acknowledge that.

I don’t detest the weather 10 months out of the year either, not sure where Jesse got that one. April is my least favorite month and I get tired of days where it rains non stop from sun up to sun down like we have had several of lately. Yesterday was fantastic and even today was great. Yesterday was rain in the morning and sun by noon, and today it was partly sunny and breezy up until the rain started an hour ago. I enjoy days like this in April!

Jesse was using hyperbole. Brand new for this forum!

A forum for the end of the world.

Where do I access those on WB?

Unrelated... but this persistently wet April is making me feel better about summer.

I go to weather.us for my EURO needs. For the seasonal, specifically https://weather.us/monthly-charts

Here are the 500mb anomaly maps from May to October. Will post my interpretations after the Blazers game.us_season-en-087-0_modezseason_2018040100_1_5436_528.pngus_season-en-087-0_modezseason_2018040100_2_5436_528.pngus_season-en-087-0_modezseason_2018040100_3_5436_528.pngus_season-en-087-0_modezseason_2018040100_4_5436_528.pngus_season-en-087-0_modezseason_2018040100_5_5436_528.pngus_season-en-087-0_modezseason_2018040100_6_5436_528.png

August foothill snow? Apparently I’m a foothilly now! (Well a week and a half from now anyway)

Congratulations!

That's gotta be killing Jesse softly. Your warmth loving a** doesn't deserve such topographical prestige.

What about when the drizzle level is below that? ;)

I have a feeling it will be drier at the new place than at my current location.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

All day rain for us up here.   As usual on the weekend now.

Some nice coolish weather in the long range before more troughing sweeps back in.

Wow looks warm to hot but that's just me

You're correct. If the ECMWF seasonals verify we would have a warmer to hotter than normal May to the end of summer here in the PNW. Here are my main takeaways from the brand new seasonals:

1) April will be the end of the rainy pattern that we've seen on occasion this spring. Big shift in the weather pattern takes place late April/early May and ridging starts to develop in the PNW.

2) Strong signal for May to not only end up warmer than normal but to end up drier than normal as well.

3) No signs of any troughing in the PNW as the pattern we have seen the last few summers starts to assert itself.

4) The highest positive anomalies from May and beyond are located in and around the PNW.

5) It remains to be seen if this summer can be as hot as the last 2 but the pattern is there for it to be close.

I don't believe it.
