November 2018 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

I live in Vancouver.

You are PDX-centric.    That is fine... you are right next to PDX.   Makes sense.

But there is no need to lump all of the posters on here from Olympia northward to southern BC as being in the same drought situation as Oregon and imply my backyard is the only place that is not in a drought.

I think the people posting in this regional thread in non-drought areas actually outnumbers the people in drought areas.

Nah. Air distance from Seattle to Port Hardy is 316 miles. Air distance from Seattle to Eugene is only 248 miles.

Sorry bro,  Seattle just got its a** droughted.

The weather in both those places is meaningless to the Seattle area trees.

I actually get a real sense that something good is coming in December.    And by good... I mean cold and snow.    :)

It is just so strange to see no ridging in the continental US... this probably used to happen all the time but it seems like a very rare pattern this decade.

I hope it’s a Dec. 2008 good feeling and not a MLK Day 2017 good feeling.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

I'm thinking fairly wet ( :o ) and mild for awhile. Favorable blocking moves in after Christmas.

My gut is saying pre Christmas...but it will also be stuffed with Turkey and Stuffing shortly so I’m not sure how much we can trust it.

This is a big concern. We will be there for a week starting on Christmas Day. I am actually optimistic that its going to be really good by then.

And get this... Whistler is way closer to my area than Eugene. :)

Whistler has a lot of alpine terrain. And being inland they usually are a pretty safe bet. They will probably get a lot of snow on the upper mountain next week

Well a decent chunk of us here are in Oregon so...

I only care about my back yard obviously... :D

I got some PM a number years back telling me how annoying I was for only talking about my back yard weather. Now I do talk about that a lot, but I also think I have been quite good at posting general maps talking about the general area too. I also don't complain about the rain anymore like I used to.

Wet makes sense again now up here after 2 dry weeks through the middle of November.

MLK Day 2018 was actually the warm one... sunny and in the 60s here.

But my good feeling now is definitely related to cold and snow.   :)

Patiently awaiting the first snow. I'll be sure to post here when it occurs.

And I found my old school metal ruler. Stores don't carry them anymore, or at least mine don't. I'll use it for measurements.

Reminds me of my first couple winters in Klamath.  :P

Down in Sarasota, FL for Thanksgiving. What a truly miserable climate this is. Temps in the upper 70’s with blasting sunshine and palm trees everywhere.

Seriously. How can anyone live here?

EPS does finally build a ridge into the Aleutians at the end of the run

BF0E0AC0-4306-4EB5-8CBA-F34D7246EBB2.png

There is a cluster of EPS members (about 20 of them) that unload a gargantuan, coast-to-coast Arctic blast at the end of week 2. The entire lower-48 is painted blue in most of those.

There is also a much warmer cluster with +EPO. So they cancel each other out a bit.

Clyde River reported sub -40*F windchills, heavy snow, zero visibility, and 70mph winds for 14 consecutive hours during that recent blizzard.

Would be awesome to live in a climate like that, where whiteout conditions are expected ~ once a week. Much better than the disgusting climates of Florida/Hawaii.

The PV will take a slow beating over the next 2 weeks as the Aleutian Low/wave-1 conduit intensifies.

Whether this opens the door to a full blown SSW/wave-2 in late December is debatable, but if it happens, it will (probably) need to occur before mid-January, as the low frequency (QBO/mass-circulation) state becomes more unfavorable thereafter.

Totally unfit for any form of human habitation. The government should at least consider funding construction of an out post there for scientific research. Maybe colonization will become feasible in the future with a few more technological advances...

Looks like Snoqualmie Pass got a few inches of snow overnight.

Crystal opens tomorrow but I believe they have been making snow.

Very nice. Crystal can open with a smaller base than some places because the terrain is smoother. Baker should get slammed tomorrow.
