February 2019 Weather Observations and Discussion Part 2

The low comes in right south of Portland on the GFS. Brings some warmer air up at first, but it turns into some nice snow.

Pretty much identical to the 6z.  Looks like some good low level cold flowing into WA as well.

Just went from flurries to a solid light snow in a few minutes here. 

 

... and it is sticking.

No doubt the models have trended toward a WSW flow aloft instead of straight west now with the Monday system.  It seems the GFS has pretty much done away with the Sunday morning snow for the Puget Sound area, but that was always small potatoes compared to Monday.

The NWS made a good call for a period of light snow this morning even though no models showed it.  I wish the blasted radar was up.

Looks just like the GFS with the low going right south of Portland.

The 12z GFS looks great for PDX. The low makes landfall along the Central Oregon Coast then heads due East, actually maybe slightly ESE. Excellent track for a big snowstorm.

The GFS shows 1 to 2 inches for King County on Monday, but it often under does precip amounts in cases like this.  It now shows afternoon temps in the mid 30s on Monday with cold air slightly more entrenched at the mid levels than the 6z run.  This is looking solid.  Probably more snow for this area and a couple of more -10 or colder daily temperature departures.

Yeah, the 12z GEM gives PDX Metro a huge snowstorm. Snow totals through Monday 10pm.

PDX is currently 33 DP 27 with ESE winds and precip approaching to the NW. Have to wonder if we won’t at least see some flakes in the air at the onset.

We had a nice mini snow event with that one at least. Some of the windiest snow I can recall.

Haha well believe it or not it kinda sucks going out and plowing snow for 60hrs. Some of the clients are customers from the late 70's believe it or not so i feel obligated.

Stupid question....but is the majority of your income from snow plowing paid in cash or check?

As for Monday....I hope you guys can get some snow, but we can score a bit more too.  Up here we probably either get cold and snow or cold and dry down there either cold and snow or cold rain.  At this point cold and dry is much better than rain.

I may not like all of the details on the GFS (LIke not looking good for folks south of Salem Monday. But I LOVE THIS.

Colder trend for mid week continues on the GFS.  Time frames that were shown to be on the edge of freezing or above are now solidly inside the freezing line.

I think models will lock in on a north Oregon coast landfall tonight and maybe wobble a little from that point.
