I left home around 8:45am. to help my brother today and I had approximately 4.50" then and I don't think anymore snow accumulated after that. Liquid equivalent is 0.32". Yesterday I was gone a lot as well and sitting in the dentists chair nearly 3 hours. Don't really have time lately to follow this forum. Not sure if I can catch up anymore:(

gonna be honest, did not buy into the totals that the models were showing.  However, with just a hair under 3" yesterday and 4" today - the 6-8" amounts actually came to fruition.  Storm track will always deviate within a 50-75 mile range, but would be nice to see the model accuracy of the storm strength continue throughout this winter.  Pretty crazy to see the trick-or-treaters walking around in this snow covered landscape. First time I ever had to shovel the walkway and doorstep for the kiddos.

In Kzoo attm. 35F and modest snow. Little bit on grass or cold cars otherwise not much. Temps will keep this from being more impressive. Hard to get CAA in here as models were indicating would be the case. Just Oct after all..

Yup. Neither the accumulating snow nor the high winds are happening. All the warm(er) models showing nothing accumulating here were correct. The SLP did NOT end up trekking north into Lk Huron and getting amped, but instead stayed progressing ENE-ward as there was not any kind of plunging cold air mass dropping in from the north to result in the scenario painted by some of the shorter range models. Just stale cold oozing east from the Plains. Bunch of white rain or +WhtRN at times. Never remember flakes flying so many hours with nothing to show for it, not even a solid slushing on my elevated deck. This snapshot illustrates nicely the warmth here in the Mitt and why shoulder season events rarely work out for us. On avg a 12 F deg difference from Wisco to the Mitt.

While seeing any flakes in Oct here is unique, between getting the winter headline and seeing all the snow around IL/WI/Iowa my hopes were up that we'd get in the game after all.

Meanwhile, sooo close for Chicago setting the all-time records for October snowfall. Have to settle for a close 2nd

Today Chicago picked up 3.4" snow. That was Chicago's second largest daily snowfall on record for October. The record is 3.8", from October 19, 1989.

With 4.6" snow this month, October 2019 ranks as Chicago's second snowiest October on record. The record monthly snowfall total is 6.3", in October 1989.

Its late October/early Nov...you have plenty of time to enjoy snow this upcoming Winter. I am enjoying the snow I am getting currently and I am expecting nothing more than flakes falling. Even though the forecast saids an inch for mby, not buying it.

Oh for sure and I'm not down much about how this played out really. Glad for those that got the snow. But, as SPS said, why not get a "win" now? I would've like to share in the historic event and when GRR went all-in with the headlines I thought it was happening, lol. That's my disappointment if I have any.

Weren't ya in a WWA? I'd say that was a bust for your area this evening, but at least its not December w a headline: "Winterstorm Warning" and forecasting 6-12" for yby...Can you imagine that was the case and suddenly..BAM, A bust. You would have been 10x more disappointed :o  ;)

Dubuque Regional Airport measured 5.2"... very nice. I'm closer to 4.2" inches, I'm guessing.

That would mean Dubuque officially has 8.4" of snow this week.

9.2” officially for the week :)

Nice to see all-time records set already!

Hope all is good amigo w your teeth. I hate going to the dentist, even for a cleaning, let alone any cavities and etc..UGH!

I don’t mind it that much. Cleanings are about as bad as anything, but I get that done twice a year. Found out it’s better to catch cavities when they are still small and keep my teeth checked regularly. Had a small cavity filled this time as well. I go to the College of Dentistry and am a guinea pig for the students there. Lol They need to practice somewhere! Actually, they do a good job and it’s a lot cheaper. The instructors check their work frequently.

First off congratulations to all of you who had the first snow fall of the winter season of 2019/20. Here in west Michigan I do not know how much snow fell to the north of here but here in the Grand Rapids metro area there was just some snow mixed in with the rain. The official amount at GRR was just 0.1" of snow fall.

nevermind, just saw a 4.7" report from North Liberty.  Maybe we tacked on another half inch or so after I left home this morning, which is quite possible since it was still accumulating when I left.  So I'll take the official report of 4.7" bringing me to 7.5" for the year.

That’s what I’m going with for October total here. This is not my biggest October snowstorm, but it’s the snowiest October of my records going back to 1990! Could even be the snowiest in over a century?! My October precip total is only 3.43”.

Here some CR.snow stats. Maybe this was already posted. I’m behind on this thread and need to get back to work.

Local met said Dubuque had 6". Dont know if that was official though.

@Tom what did you end up with?

I'll be honest, I didn't even go out and measure yesterday and I'm just going off the local spotter reports and the official ORD tally of 3.4", a local report of 5". The models did a good job showing the most intense part of the storm that hit in the afternoon when the defo band pivoted through. There were some awesome snowfall rates and the wind was strong as well. Certainly brings the winter-feel back in action. Gotta do a lot of yard work this weekend. Tons of leaves and branches fell off over the last week.

No, just never turned over enough to plain snow. I’m just north of GR.

I didn't get much also, as expected. They were calling for an inch here in mby, but I was not buying it because ground was too warm. I still enjoyed seeing the flakes falling, even though it was dark. I had my outdoor lights on and was able to satisfy my needs.

I received nada, but was impressed anyway w how this turned out, especially when the transition from rain to snow happened. Radar looked impressive for awhile, but as the low began moving away, the area of snow on radar was dissipating.

While I did not get measurable snow in Marshall, as you head east into Jackson Cnty there is still snow sitting on roof tops, trees, in shade etc.  There was an NWS report of 0.6" in the Jackson area. Inland furthest from the influence of GL's does best in these early season events.

More evidence for that from this interior NMI locale near my old place of work:

Same here....lots of yard work to do once the snow all melts. Then it still needs to dry some. Leaves are several inches deep beneath the trees!

I’m not worried at all. If something is to difficult then they get the pros there to do it, like when I had my wisdom teeth extracted there a few years ago. Lots of people get work done there. Just takes a lot longer as they have to get their instructors to check every little thing they do.

For Tom

From LOT

  • With last winter lingering through April and this early season snow, there was not much time between snowfall events for the off season. In fact the 185 days between accumulating snow events (>= 0.1 in) for Chicago was the 6th shortest stretch of days on record for the city. When looking at between 1"+ events, the 185 days was actually tied for the shortest stretch with 1967.
