Pacific Northwest Weather - May 2023

Recommended Posts

Really nice day here. Clear and chilly morning with clouds moving in toward the late morning into the afternoon.

A cool end to a very warm May with a 64/42 spread. Some sunbreaks now as the sun lowers in the sky, and 61 currently.

Summer ☀️ grows while Winter ❄️  goes

Lol. Can actually see eddy transport of westerly momentum in the subtropics on that 500mb image.

*ENSO/STJ will likely prevent a consolidated aleutian high/-PNA pattern so substantial cool anomalies are unlikely in WA/BC, but at least the heat will be over for awhile. And there should be beneficial rainfall.

That's all that matters to me. Get the 75F+ heat out until July, and bring on the faucet. My lawn needs a drink and some shade.

Feels a lot like summer has already begun. Could be 2016,18, or 19…

If we acknowledge the silver falls sensor was likely overexposed in 1967 then last august easily takes the cake.

Yes, and ignore all other non-UHI afflicted stations that also have recorded far less record warm months...

It should be totally sunny starting later this afternoon through the weekend... the ECMWF is not even showing morning clouds after today.

In fact... the 00Z ECMWF did show any low clouds (except along the coast) for the next 10 days after today.

34.2… this is bullshit

You live over 1,000 ft in elevation north of 48N. This is normal.

The fact that we just went through a May warmer and drier than a typical June is BS.

It was also colder than normal for most of the last 6 months before May.

This is not normal. The latest freeze at my location in the last 25 years was last year, May 21st. Until last night.

Not sure if there a June topic up yet... but I think Jesse needs to start it like he did for the May topic.   I bookmarked the May topic on my phone and it always started me on the first page and I had to click to go to the last page.   Not sure why.  But I have read the Jesse/Andrew enthusiasm at the start of May so many times in the last month as I clicked through to the last page.   😀

Beautiful headed north in the Willamette Valley to some flower gardens. Beautiful day for it.

Been posting less today because I have to make a confession…

I don’t play video games very often, and I’ve not been interested in a game in the Legend of Zelda franchise since Ocarina of Time.

Someone suggested I pick up this latest game they had made. And one of the few types of video games I enjoy are open world sandbox games where the player can go all over the place and complete missions whenever they want etc.

To say I’m absolutely floored by this new game of there is an understatement. I’ve not been pulled into a video game world like this since Red Dead 2 or maybe GTA V. I will play the game for 14 hours and it feels like an hour or so. I just get so beautifully errant in this game.

I seriously can’t believe this game is this good. I was borderline giving Zelda fans flack for obsessing over the franchise and then this game comes out…

This 10 day forecast for Everett looks pretty manageable and pleasant.  It's just concerning how we've had no meaningful rainfall in quite awhile.  So much sun, no rain.  Snow pack is quickly melting and any gains we had made are quickly melting.

Ah, so there was patchy frost but not a freeze. Still pretty impressive for June.

Correct. I was wrong on my terminology. All 3 car windshields had ice on them and half the yard and garden beds had frost. I think Monday morning might do it again
