This is probably what January 1930 or 1950 looked like on the models. 🤣

Ahh my bad. I knew it was shorter than 12z and 0z, but forgot where it ended. Any big changes at hour 90 from the 0z?

Nah it looks good, but basically identical to the 00z. Just a little too early to tell any meaningful differences yet on this one. It will come into range soon!

lol it’s gonna be national news for sure if theres snow all the way down into the Bay Area. I think things will back off and moderate atleast bit in the coming days…but confidence in some winter weather is starting to get real. Hopefully it’s an event that’s truly top tier.

You really should look at the full 384 hour run snowfall maps and the 24 hour minimum 2m temp at hour 384 on the 06z GFS. I can tell you haven't seen that part yet by this post. 🤣

I just saw the 06z GFS. The January 1969 El Niño says hello! It’s been 55 years and I’m back guys! 🥶🧊☃️

Worth noting that although this frame says it bottoms out at -43F east of the Cascades, the terrain resolution of the GFS can not adequately account for the cold valleys like Winthrop and Mazama. In this scenario, those locations would likely not just break the all time WA state record of -48F, they would absolutely obliterate it.

I'm heading to ocean shores this weekend for a guys get away. Aka lots of drinking and games. I'm gonna be an insufferable bastard talking about the weather.

Lol, it’s been hard to keep quiet about the potential to co-workers, friends and family. I’m sure I’ll be getting a lot of questions soon. My boss knows I’m a weather geek I think I’m probably going to atleast have to mention we need to start doing some freeze protection at our water treatment sites.

Wtf -26 in salem, their record is -13. -42 in spokane, and I believe their record is -34. And -27 in Portland, their record is -3. The 06z shows them breaking their record by 24 degrees.... not going to verify, but if it did, wow....

Yeah I can't imagine Mazama and Winthrop not breaking the record considering how cold Spokane is
