How many kids do you have in your house?

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Haha there is your answer!

What's interesting though is my daughter NEVER had been sick in her life until kindergarten last year. She was then sick half the year, but has been fine this year. Our son got RSV, last November, but that's the only time he's been sick (knock on wood.). My wife is really into indigenous medicine, which I think is quackery, but the kids are pretty healthy...

I had covid once, breezed through it. I have had the flu 2 times in my life. Only thing I do that might help is I have been taking 3k milligrams of c for the last 20 years every day, and vitamin d.

Not too bad at all. My guess is the douglas fir damage was probably done by the wind. They hold up really well with ice.

I think this is an artifact of dynamic ip addresses used by various ISPs. When someone gets banned, the IP address they posted from are added to a pool to ban as well. Ten years of this place and a couple hundred bans across the Pacific Northwest has yielded just around under a thousand IPs being marked.

I am working on that this week. I figure at this point if your account gets banned, but you find ways to get back on and harass people or pull a Link and threaten to murder me, then I'll just add your IP address to a table to drop.

It happens consistently to me when I’m on my Verizon data plan (but not AT&T), so that makes sense.

We got hammered with everything last season and apparently our immune systems have remembered since we have all been (knock on wood) healthy this season while everyone around us at work and school have been sick with everything. I do not want to relive last year for a very long time, being sick from the first week of November to the week before Christmas with only a few day reprieve between sickness was terrible.

For the moment the internet is back. Hallalujah!!!

38F and cloudy in downtown Springfield. A lot of work left to do but progress is gradually being made.

Many parts of the city are still without power, including parts of Mohawk, where there are 2 major traffic lights still out. The city park has been devastated by the fallen trees, many of which just straight up got uprooted and fell into the park.

The kiddo's school had the water system break and some structural damage resulting in 75% of the school's floors being underwater and having to completely replace those floors, which could take quite a while. Meanwhile, the school itself is still without power.

Really hoping for a cool summer but if it's another inferno then all these broken-off tree branches and other parts of the trees that fell will dry out and become a really easy way to rapidly spread wildfire throughout the city. Maybe we'll get lucky and have a wet Apr-early Jun and save our a$$ a bit, but I'll be surprised.

In any event. Hope y'all are doing well. Maybe February can be the snow month again.

Glad lyfe is slowly returning to normal.

My 80 year old mother couldn't stand being trapped by snow in her sloped driveway up in Bellingham so she figured out how to use the electric snowblower that my dad bought years ago and cleared her driveway today and then took pics and sent them to me and my sister.  I specifically told her not do that... particularly since there was a layer of ice under the snow.    If it hadn't melted by today then I was going up there tomorrow but she couldn't wait.    They have lots of snow on the ground up there still.

There’s more that goes into these reanalyses than just the ET/500mb pattern. You’d think 2016/17 was a strong niña based on how the 500mb pattern played out, but in reality it wasn’t a niña at all (Jan onwards).

Ha, I’d never actively root against you guys. If anything I’m empathetic since you guys struggle as much, if not more than we do in this climate era.

If I was going to root against anyone it would be Scandinavia since troughing there is a winter killer for all of North America.

Oh yeah, we’re all gonna torch for the next 2-3 weeks. Or at least average well above climo. Alaska and Greenland will score, though!

There’s a chance we could sneak a southern stream system in here without cold (technically it can snow here with above average 850mb temps) but that is threading the needle and usually doesn’t work.

Less than here, but yeah.

It’s the GFS, bro. There won’t be much if any cold in Canada in a +EPO/+PNA pattern. Alaska will probably get cold, but it’s at everyone else’s expense.

And it’s probably correct. Essentially repeating the subseasonal evolution of December (with some minor differences, of course).

At least North America was able to score mid January with that SSW event. Back to El Niño.

Don't you work from home, though? That would eliminate 60% of my exposure. The rest comes from my kids. (Little germ factories!)

Edit: Neverending. Webcams look gray. Snoqualmie probably got rain on top of all the new snow, which is gross. Not sure about Crystal or Stevens though.

It is 40 degrees on much of the upper slopes today. Cold air trapped at pass level

I don't know how warm it is where you are, but it still hasn't warmed out of the 30's Fahrenheit from Bellingham north. Pair that with how much snow fell on Wednesday, and there is still a lot of snow and slush around.

I went years and years without getting sick through my 20s.  But it’s different now we have kids 😂

I know I haven't as long as I can remember.  I asked my mother and she said I had Mono somehow at age 6 from drinking after someone that had it.  Only other time I remember being very ill was a nasty bout of the noravirus in like 2003 that put me in the hospital in my late 20s.  had some nasty cold 5 years ago (was tested for flu and was neg) but that was pre covid.  may have been RSV I suppose but wasn't tested

Yep it's going to take more than a week of winter to make for a decent snow pack.  Also much of the snow that fell the last 10 days has a lower water content than normal.
