DP down to 19 in Bellingham. Tomorrow night really hinges on how well that cool dry air can push South ahead of the precip moving North.

I think we are to far south for any snow chances until about the 25th, but it is very frosty and down to 30 out there right now!

It might be enough to close bachelor for a day or two, less work for me!! Although that's means I can't enjoy the powder at the ski resort, I guess you win some and you lose some. The balance of life.

Why does the GFS and ensemble think the 850s will get so cold tomorrow night?  Weird.

I use airbnb quite a bit when I travel, and I like the fact I can get a whole house for the price of a 2 star hotel. On the other hand most of the Airbnb's I stay in are owned by people who operate at least a dozen sometimes more. I think if we are really going to get serious about housing we have to repurpose unused commercial space. There are thousands of abandoned malls and offices around the country that could be repurposed to provide affordable housing. It is very expensive to repurpose these spaces though, so at the end of the day we probably need Congress to step in. Also maybe remove property tax caps (In states they exist) for people's say 6th, 7th home. I don't want to hurt folks who own a few rentals so they can retire or make passive income, but Black Rock buying up 50,000 homes is sickening.

When all the fees are accounted for, I've found that Airbnbs are rarely more affordable now most places, unless you have more than 2 people chipping in.

I don't know. When I go out to Oklahoma to spend time with my older kids, I can usually find a decent 2-3 bedroom place for $100-150 a night. Certainly a lot better than cramming my 3 kids into a hotel room, and often my wife and our two kids are with me as well. The fees are BS, but if I rent a room at say the Osage Casino it's nearly $150 a night and I'm cramming 4-7 people in one room with twin beds versus a 2-3 bedroom home. So in that sense it's worth it.

For what it's worth, models struggled with the east coast snowstorm today. Two days ago it looked like Boston was locked into 8-12". They ended up with a slushy inch at best. None of the models are doing all that well predicting snow this winter.

Yeah, it's been a godsend out there. It's nice too because I typically rent the same place each time I go so my kids have that familiarity. But yeah some of the prices with Airbnb are out of control. I actually used to host Airbnb. Started with the eclipse. Rented out a room for $500. Did it for a while, but now with two small kids it's not really feasible. But when I was doing it we would usually charge about $60-70 a night for a room. Met some really awesome people.

Tulsa is an extremely underrated city. When I first moved to that area in 2006 Tulsa was a dump compared to Portland. Now it's much nicer than Portland. I have a several friends who are active in the art and music scene there, which is very vibrant.

One interesting aspect of this system is that the ECMWF has been consistently showing temps a little warmer towards the foothills in the middle of the night tomorrow during the precip.   This is the opposite of the last event with cold air coming through the pass.

Almost like a reverse of the typical Fraser Valley outflow there, yet the precip still gets wiped out at the border.

It isn't very hard to be a nicer town than Portland. Unless your town is atleast much MUCH better than Portland, your town is probably s**t.

Oklahoma is so culturally different than Oregon it's almost hard to describe. I had a friend in college whose uncle was in a rock band and would always play at these super sketchy biker bars. Once we were at one of his shows and she could tell I was nervous and she pulled her hand gun out of her purse to try to ease my mind about the situation... It had the opposite effect.

The cleaning fees are totally BS. I have well over 50 stays, and a good overall rating with Airbnb, but in December 2022, I got a bad rating because I "left garbage on top of the trash can" and there was "popcorn on the rug." Even with 3-5 kids I generally leave the place spotless, but to get a bad review because there were some popcorn crumbs and some extra garbage IN THE TRASH CAN, while paying a $25 daily cleaning fee was total BS!

The cleaning fees alone are usually enough to more than offset any savings on the published rate.

Cleaning fees are so stupid, at somewhere nice you get charged up to hundreds of dollars for a Cleaning fee, even if you don't leave it dirty. I get that no matter how clean I leave it, they need to wash the sheets and some other things (although I rarely even use the blankets at a air bnb/hotel, I don't trust them), but they don't need to charge 200$ for that. Why do they lie and say they need that much money to clean, just put it in the upfront price....

At this point I just stay at cheap hotels or motels or sleep in a tent when I can, only about once a year I'll go stay somewhere nice, it just isn't worthit to pay all that extra money.
