December 2015 in the Pacific Northwest

On US 26 the first webcam with snow is ZigZag... So cold damming is dropping the snow level by about 1500' in Oregon today, the difference between Scappose and ZigZag elevation wise.

I would agree. I'm at 1600' and have been switching back and forth between rain and snow.

Yeah, if I were a Seattle area poster I wouldn't be to upset about this event. Most of the NW Oregon lowlands are not seeing sticking snow. From the sounds of it, the Puget Sound area is doing just as well.

I was able to get a wet trace up here, but I think the event is basically over for me now. It was nice to see. The falling snow and huge flakes were very pretty.

Back in Carnation.. Was hoping the snow had held up while I was gone but bare ground and light rain is what I returned to. Temp is actually colder than when I left (now 35) but almost no dry air left, so I'm guessing that's the culprit.

Yup, it feels like there was a point about an hour or so ago when we "used up" all of the dry air. Things have turned much wetter out there since then and it has been more of a light, drizzly mix falling.

Temperature has been hovering between 33 and 34.

I think HRRR and Euro show we still have 3-4 hours of precip left, though it seems fairly light. Some low elevation areas may still get some accumulation but I'm not sure how widespread it would be. I've been all rain for a bit, and now seems like nothing is falling.

HIO at 32 and PDX at 34 as the sun goes down seems somewhat promising.

East of I-205? Houses look pretty suburbanish to me. Very impressive if it's snowing that far east in PDX metro.

West Hills at 1,000'. Pretty suburnanish up here for the most part.

Cold Season 2023/24:

Total snowfall: 26"

Highest daily snowfall: 5"

Deepest snow depth: 12"

Coldest daily high: -20ºF

Coldest daily low: -42ºF

Number of subzero days: 5

PDX down to 34 on the hour. If this thing had moved in six hours earlier they would have easily hit 32 and a much larger portion of the metro would have seen sticking snow.

I don't think timing was/is as relevant as people think.  If the air mass supports it, the entire column will cool to freezing whenever.  Timing is more about efficiency of accumulation.

Drove up to about 1900' in the east coast range. At the very top there was about 18", with 3ft drifts in places

Impressive. That's only like 350 feet higher than you, right? How much do you have on the ground?

Was it snowing in Downtown North Bend at Exit 31/32?

Must not have been sticking... I drove down the hill to about 600 feet to see how low the snow level was and it was snowing there but not sticking.   Above there even the trees were covered snow.
