Two lightning strikes with heavy sleet in the last 5 minutes!

This storm is awesome! Only in an el Niño winter.

Worried about that dry slot coming this way

There's a lull starting now here, then if you look further south there is more precip.

22z HRRR still showing the radar filling back in by 7-8pm and switching to snow.

Observation from Kenosha.

What's falling outside now is almost like pixie dust snow. It's definitely not sleet anymore and not rain. 5.0" of accumulation as of 5:45pm

Kind of weird - all of sudden it's quiet except for the wind.

Seriously impressed with the storm here in Evanston.

3" of the densest snow/sleet on Earth and moderate to heavy sleet all day.

Here's a couple pictures. Ended up getting about another inch after I shoveled in the second one.

Back to all snow! I'm guessing it should remain snow for the rest of the night. I'm at 5"

MKX still has rain after 10pm...

Fail! lol

But really, who could have predicted this!?

Sleet with a few snowflakes mixed in. HRRR says all snow isn't far away. Snowing out by I-39/90.

Moving again.

Finally turned to rain here in Evanston after 12 solid hours of sleet.

I just measured an average final total of 3.5" and it's pretty deep even in the street!

I was out shoveling and had to dig out / push a guy who got his car completely stuck when he drove outside the tire tracks in the street. The shovel came in handy.

Nice pic.

I bet you don't see sleet in Washington very often.

Snow is quickly closing in. Western suburbs now reporting snow.

I would estimate 3-4" of slop here today.  It started as snow early this morning then changed to sleet and sleeted moderately to heavy almost all day. We may have had a brief period of freezing rain, just enough to glaze things.  Then back to sleet, finally got snow around 1:30 then switched back to sleet and finally snow again by 5pm.  Almost impossible for me to say how much accumulated as snow vs. sleet.

I've experienced it a handful of times, but it was always just for an hour or two before turning to rain. Never seen it accumulate like this.

It looks a lot like a huge hailstorm might.
