Looks like the snow is going to end a bit earlier than predicted. Early evening I would say. You should good until then.

 

 

If it were just a degree colder, I'd actually have something to measure.

Too warm. If it would have been in the 20s only.

Back home from taking wife to her dentist appointment.  First off the Grand Rapids area is still getting moderate to at time heavy snow fall. But that said most roads are either wet or sloppy snow covered. All the roads are very passable and did not see any mishaps.  Here at home I have 2.75” of wet snow on the ground and at this time getting light to moderate snow.

Down to freezing, but probably too late to pick up much accumulation.

 

EURO was too far initially up through KY. GFS did a really good job on the low placement, not the snow placement. Dry air, and mild temps didn't do any favors along the northwest edge.

At work in Lemont, Il it was snowing pretty hard and sticking - perhaps an inch or two on the ground.

 

After driving southwest on I-55 home to Plainfield, IL, the temps had risen a degree or two and the ground wasn't covered at all.

Just got home and measured 5" on the concrete drive and the same on my elevated "snow board" so pretty confident a bit more actually fell but suffered with compaction due to the weight of this stuff. I have to retract my rant about GRR, compared to LES or even last Feb's big storm this is high moisture stuff. Makes driving a fun time. Lots of stuff in the ditch including a UPS delivery truck they're pro drivers so very rare to see that!

 

Anyways, winds were picking up a bunch here even in town, but I'll say this is more like and early Nov storm up north with the temps and warm ground and zero base. Nov '90 and Nov '95 were the two biggies I got when I was there.

I think the time of day hurt the snow fall totals if this would have started at night fall then there would much more snow on the ground then there now is.  I am now up to 3.5" here

Back in from shoveling off the driveway (with a shovel) and taking several snow depth measurements. On the shoveling while the snow is on the heavy side it is much lighter than the sleet storm we had earlier in the winter.  That storm dropped the heaviest 1.5” of whatever that was I have tried to clear in my life. Now for the snow depth here in my yard. On the snow board I have 3.5” and on parts of the driveway it was only 1.5” will call the snow fall so far at 3.5” getting moderate to almost heavy snow falling at this time with 20 to 25 MPH winds and a temp now at 30°

I would say this fits the spring snow fall well. when I was out between 3 to 5:30 PM the roads here in GR were not all that bad, slushy snow covered but there have been many times were they have been much worse. did not see any mishaps on our travels. and the traffic was lighter than a average rush hour here

I am about to get the back side of the precip from this storm pretty soon and that is where the real accumulating snows will pile up later tonight with strong winds. I'm in for 8-14inches total storm totals.

 

Jasters220...is this storm treating ya good with snow amounts? Im in the 3.8inch so far and much more to come overnight.

Had about 5" OTG when I measured this eve. Was still coming down pretty good and the winds are ramping up too. Prolly go out and shovel at some point and see how much has come down in the past couple hrs. Hope you get hammered over there tonight!

With a average of 9.5” in my yard with a range of 8.5” to 13”  all in all a rather big late winter/spring storm

Congrats peeps! NIN (you T-bone) and SMI special. Not the amped beast I was hoping for but a nice traditional solid 8-12" honest-to-goodness snowstorm in MET winter. Went to bed about 10pm after shoveling my ~7" of concrete mix, and the snow had all but stopped. Thought its was winding down, but that was just a lull. Went out for work about 6am and had another 3.5" and coming down pretty hard so 10.5" as of then. Never had insane rates let alone combined with expected 40+ mph winds so this was a failure from that standpoint. Nice storm but the historic potential never came together. I may get a few pic's before dark this evening but not sure when I can post 'em tbh?

Very nice Jasters220. Thats how my snows look. We had a great storm. My snow is almost over. Waiting for another batch to come in and then thats it. Total snow so far IMBY is 8.1". Not too shabby at all.

A heavy enough spell of light snow last night got me on the books for accumulation. Only 0.1" though. Most is already melted.

According to my KRMY ASOS unit, it recorded snowfall (every 20 min readings) for 26 hrs non-stop. Had this one avg'd a bit more like expected and/or enjoyed normal ratios coulda been knocking on that 20" Big Big Dog door!

Exactly...this storm had potential to be a blockbuster storm for us with 24"+ snows had there been no mixing going on. This low had to be a couple miles east from us to be in that perfect zone. Nevertheless, that last batch just about past through my area and added to my totals. Up to 9.6" and I think that will be my total storm total. Snowing still lightly but about to finally end. All in all, a 10inch snowstorm for my area. We did pretty good jaster220.
