March 2017 Observations and Model Discussion for the Pacific Northwest

Maybe the spread from low-high is typical but the high itself is not far from record. (67 in 2004).

Sure, but I'm betting it's pretty normal to see a high or two in the 60s at some point in any given March. Except for the very coldest ones.

Yes, it is pretty normal. More so in the latter part of the month I'd say though.

Amazing how much cooler, cloudier the Puget sound region has been the last few days. They have mostly missed out on this taste of spring.

Even though it's just been in the low 50s with sprinkles here it still feels like a taste of spring.

All done.

Never know...we could have an April 2008 redux! I personally cannot wait for that first 70 degree wall to wall sunshine type of day...

Well... we are due for lots of rain because it was dry for part of yesterday.

Yeah my trees were looking a little drought stressed from that 4 hour dry period.

During our 4-week dry spell this coming summer we will hear from some people about how they miss the rain and the trees are dying.  :)

Got another chance of snow this winter or should I give up?

Though taking a close look at the 12z GFS there could be some lumpy rain/chunky snow in the north sound next Sunday!

Wow it looks like the entire Northeast is under a WSW. Too bad we couldn't manage the snow totals all winter here that will be coming their way in just one storm.

I'm not going to get much, maybe 4-8" of snow/sleet which is basically run of the mill. Fred is going to get smashed up in Philly though..some models dump 15-20" of paste up there in 6hrs or less.

If the warm nose advances too far NW, I might end up with a bunch of sleet..last time we had a big sandstorm like that was on Valentines Day of 2007..over 4" of sleet.

The dry spell in Summer 2015 was a lot longer than four weeks, and many trees did die.

It is a very good thing that not every summer is like that.

Going to have 2 more highs in the mid-60's.

Though it's a bit less likely the record highs will be challenged, today the record is 71 in 1994, and tomorrow 70 in 1994.

sadly in a winter like this 4 to 8 inchs is a big storm for this winter even those in realty its not for our location.I think it tells us more just how much this winter sucked balls in our reagion.I wouldn't be surprised those if in a few years we ended up with the opperset exstream like cold snowy winters tend to be balance out by winters like these and these winters tend to be balance out with the cold snowy winters.I remember how 2001-2002 sucked but then came 2002-2003 which was completely two opperset exstreams in different directions.but then again that was a classic moderate west basen el nino following a 3 to 4 year la nina streak so that winter had cold and storms written all over it going in.

12Z ECMWF shows that Sunday and Monday are dry for WA.   Its been a long time since that happened.   Some sunshine on those days as well.

Raining again by Tuesday but it looks like the jet will be down through CA at that time.

Yeah seriously, a temp around 72F, dew point at 55F, and a threat of thunderstorms with increasing winds sounds mighty fine right now.

I'm sick of this D**n rain and gloom but I don't want a 4 week dry stretch either...which is why I can't wait to move to the interior where the precipitation is more evenly spread out. Of course, I'm not considering dry spots such as Kelowna, Kamloops, and Cranbrook. It's definitely not as bad here as it is in Portland though. Too rainy in the wet season and too dry in the dry season.

What is it like Living in Kelowna? Always thought that area was beautiful. What type of jobs are there?
