Cherry tree blossom update from Shawnigan lake.......still dormant but getting closer.

Wow... really late.

The cherry trees in North Bend are in full bloom and guessing closer to Seattle its getting past the peak.

Our neighbor has some along their driveway and they are in full bloom even up here at 1,000 feet.

Still waiting on them down here too. Strange microclimate you must live in.

You say that like I am lying.   If we were not engrossed in yard work here today... I would go get pics.

Must be different trees.   The parking lot of the outlet mall in North Bend is on fire with pink blossoms on the cherry trees.

They are clearly past peak at UW in Seattle based on the streaming cam.

Grass was very long when I mowed... many bags of grass were dumped this morning in our compost pile.

Our cottonwood trees are also leaving out... and the trees in our yard are just about to start.     I noticed in Issaquah and Bellevue yesterday that almost all of the trees are leafing out even on the hillsides.

Wasn't implying that. You just seemed somewhat dubious of Shawnigan's claims, so I was showing that what he is seeing might actually be more reflective of the region.

Driving up I-5 last Monday things still looked pretty bare in most places. Although Seattle proper seemed to be ahead of most of the corridor. In Bellingham the majority of the trees were bare with just a few flowering the whole week when we were up there. Similar story driving home down the Olympic Peninsula.

I did not doubt Shawhigan's statement at all... just surprised.

Grasses are starting to grow at a decent pace in the Bend area below 3700' or so. Shrubs are a little more budded out than the trees which have only barely budded. Way behind last year.

4000' valley has green natural grass here. Hillsides below that are still yellow(too dry?).

Posted on Komo news

from NWS 2:30 am Sunday discussion

.SHORT TERM...Here I sit looking model to model,

seeking a solution that won`t make me hit the bottle.

Though I must admit perpetual sogginess makes forecasting a breeze.

Debating whether or not Seattle is under a curse,

I decided to type this discussion in verse.

So if this weather poem does not please,

do remember I studied science and not humanities.

Let`s start this off on a happy note,

with words so rare they leap from my throat.

A weak ridge aloft will keep conditions dry and a break in the clouds will bring some sun.

This should last for most of today,

so take this rare opportunity to go out and play.

An approaching upper level trough will sadly kill this fun,

with an incoming front bringing rain overnight tonight and into Mon.

The advancing trough behind this front,

will allow showers to continue compounding this affront.

Once the trough passes by Monday night yet another ridge will be overhead.

Temps will rise if only a tease,

for they still can`t escape beyond the 50s.

The next weather system looms to the south filling this forecaster with dread.

As it lifts northward, it looks to return precipitation for Wed. SMR

.LONG TERM...Rain will spread as far as the eye can see,

even though models still tend to disagree.

On the track of the low but this point is fairly moot,

because no matter who`s right it`s just going to rain some more.

Wet conditions persist for the second half of the week,

so you`d best be accustomed to shoes that squeak.

And so at my heart these models tore

as I looked upon them like The Raven from days of yore.

I continue to ask if Seattle shall see consistent sun

and they continue to seemingly answer...nevermore. SMR

Today was spectacular here... sunny most of the day with some high clouds at times.   Having a nice weekend day is nature's free therapy after a miserably wet spring so far.  Also got the garden planted and even enjoyed a cheap Costco beer on a warm and sunny deck as a reward.   :)

Although the Pacific Northwest does not have the climate I would like, the countryside there is a lot prettier and backyards are about 5-10 times the size of overpopulated Southern California. I remember our friend's house in Portland, which had a beautiful large backyard. They go to Tucson every winter, however, to escape the gray, rainy weather.

Here they have houses near the beach that have tiny backyards and streets packed with parked cars of people who go to the beach that cost over one million dollars.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but PDX is in pretty historic territory with regards to lack of warmth so far this year.

Our max so far is 63, and we may reach next weekend without going any higher.

This is the list of years with the latest "first 64" occurrence:

1) 4/18/1950

2) 4/15/1945

3) 4/11/1954

4) 2017

5) 4/8/1957

We just passed 1957 for 4th place. Interesting that every year on the top-5 list is from the 1940's and 1950's. Our closest approach since was back in 2009, when the "first 64" occurred on April 5th.

High and mid-level clouds started moving right before dusk making for a mild evening now... was just outside and crickets are very active.    Love that sound... makes it feel like summer.  :)

Jesse's gonna have to pay for this with some serious 70+ degree lows in the summer of 2018.

I bet!

Not a drop here yet.   MM5 shows that we wake up to sun as well.   Tomorrow afternoon looks a bit more interesting.

8 a.m. tomorrow...
