Phil
Getting back into the swing of things today, there is now clear evidence for -QBO influence on the width of the Pacific z-cell network, as cooling/easterly shear is descending to the tropopause. Starting to wonder if the heat/ridging will underperform despite the upcoming round of Pacific forcing. We won’t have giant poleward NE-Pacific anticyclones this year, and the equatorward components are already increasing in ratio and potency. Phil
And the warm off-equator SSTAs will promote a classical regime of destructive interference between the QBO/ENSO seasonality and climatology. At least for awhile. Might be a gradient type year, with a tight, but more equatorward high leading to a cooler/wetter background state in BC/northern WA, and a warmer/drier regime in CA/OR. 1 Quote Live Weather Cam: https://www.youtube.com/live/KxlIo8-KVpc?si=xKLCFYWbZieAfyh6 PWS Wunderground https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KMDBETHE62 PWS CWOP/NOAA: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=F3819&hours=
