August 2018 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Low of 64 at PDX. Pretty much zero chance they stay in the 60s today.

Yeah, that low was a *****. More importantly, the circulation is making it tougher to keep a solid stratus deck. The WRF hinted there could be some break,up but hope springs eternal!

12z GFS has the ULL a little closer to the coast and is a bit cooler.

Meanwhile, the CMC kinda washes it out and never really moves it over the PNW. Still cools things down for the weekend, though.

That’s too bad. Was hoping to hit the century mark at least once this season. Sun angles are quickly becoming our enemy.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

One upcoming anachronism is the Clark County Fair. Despite the fact we have inarguably entered an entirely new climate period in the last couple years, it always is toasty at some point during the fair. Usually the day or days I end up there for whatever reason. This year looks no different.

SEA managed .03" yesterday, first measurable precip since 7/7.

Nothing measurable at OLM or BLI.

I need to get a cheap rain gauge but we definitely have had measurable precip the last 3 days straight!

We are going to the Stanwood/Camano fair today, going to be an old school cool fair day! The last several have been quite toasty!

Way out in la la land on the 12z GFS but that is quite the chilly airmass being shown for mid August pushing through the Northern Rockies. Snow!

Seems plausible that an early fall is on the way for the Northern Rockies followed by a drier than normal winter with the ENSO state and -NAO.

Haven't been in probably 10 years, before the present climate existed. I remember it rained one time I went.

That wasn't rain, it was funnel cake grease. Explains why you had to throw out the Goo Goo Dolls t-shirt you were wearing that day.

Fall will hit us first in mid September after we torch hard early on. 97 on 9/11 at PDX.

October will feature 20+ days of rain and no clear nights, other than a random east wind night with an unnaturally warm low in the late-month period.

November will either blowtorch with light rain the entire way through or feature our coldest airmass of the season at an inopportune time. Likely some combination of both.

December will be reliably cool and dull. Probably our only (light) snow of the season late in the month as we get our annual cool spell shortly before New Year's.

January will suck. Hard. Coldest low of the month on the 2nd before weeks of mild rain take over. MLK Day will be 55/45 at PDX.

This is the 2010s PNW climate model. I hope you enjoyed.

Eh, the big -AM/PDO/GLAAM/IOD/ONI related global cooling is only a few more years away now. I'm actually rather worried about how severe that might make things here.

You must have big lungs!

Probably due for a completely snowless winter, too :(

Feels about right. The next couple seem like good candidates. Karma builders going into the 2020 descent into infrastructure-choking, bum-killing, tree-murdering, North Face stock-friendly heaven.

2019-20 seems most likely, but four in a row at PDX is a tall order for this century.

There are parts of the central and south valley that have not seen an accumulating snowfall since march of 2017. If we go til 2020+ without one that will be incredibly depressing.

You didn't get anything this past winter with the Christmas Eve event and the late February Arctic Blast?

Christmas event was basically Woodburn north and the Feb event dropped a very slushy inch (honestly probly less) on the grass which melted within 2 hrs. Places closer to Corvallis and Albany had nothing.
