Assume for a moment that the Trump trial in New York results in a hung jury and no conviction on any counts. What's everyone's take on whether prosecutors would try the case for a second time? My personal opinion is that even if it comes out 11-1 or 10-2 in favor of guilty, they probably won't try the case again. Would probably be very tempting though. If it's like 8-4 or even more split than that, I don't think there's a chance in hell that they try again, even in heavily liberal NYC. 100% they wouldn't try again. SnarkyGoblin
Quote “If the potential for criminal liability is taken off the table, wouldn’t there be significant risk that future presidents would be emboldened to commit crimes with abandon while they are in office?” Jackson asks, adding: “Once we say ‘no criminal liability, Mr. President. You can do whatever you want,’ I’m worried we would have a worse problem than the problem of the president feeling constrained to follow the law while he’s in office.” And then there's everyone's favorite corrupt Justice. Only the best and brightest for SCOTUS. Quote Justice Thomas cites “Operation Mongoose” in asking why no ex-presidents have been charged in the past. That is an odd example. President John F. SnarkyGoblin
1 hour ago, SilverFallsAndrew said: Of course not. In theory I don’t support blanket immunity. I also do not support obvious political prosecution. But if a jury finds they broke a law, that's not 'persecution' which I think is the word you mean? How it works is literally in our Bill of Rights. Quote In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence. Just admit that you think Trump should be fully immune to a jury but no one else shouldn't. Cohen went to jail for literally the exact same thing Trump is currently being accused of. Was that a 'crucifixion™'? You seem to worship this man.

Cohen was not jailed for doing what Trump is accused of. And that’s not even the case the Supreme Court is hearing arguments about. With a straight face you can tell me these prosecutions aren’t political? If you believe that then don’t complain when Trump gets elected and throws all of y’all in jail. 1 Quote Snowfall Precip 2022-23: 95.0" 2022-23: 17.39" 2021-22: 52.6" 2021-22: 91.46" 2020-21: 12.0" 2020-21: 71.59" 2019-20: 23.5" 2019-20: 58.54" 2018-19: 63.5" 2018-19: 66.33" 2017-18: 30.3" 2017-18: 59.83" 2016-17: 49.2" 2016-17: 97.58" 2015-16: 11.75" 2015-16: 68.67" 2014-15: 3.5" 2013-14: 11.75" 2013-14: 62.30 2012-13: 16.75" 2012-13: 78.45 2011-12: 98.5" 2011-12: 92.67" It's always sunny at Winters Hill! What makes it a Kangaroo court other than that's what your King tells you? 46 minutes ago, SilverFallsAndrew said: Cohen was not jailed for doing what Trump is accused of. He was literally an unindicted co-conspirator in Cohen's Federal indictment that he pleaded guilty and went to jail for. The current NY trial is about Trump falsifying business records to hide his aforementioned accused federal crimes of illegal campaign contributions. So ya, it's fair to say it isn't the same thing. But certainly related. 46 minutes ago, SilverFallsAndrew said: And that’s not even the case the Supreme Court is hearing arguments about. What's your point? Immunity is immunity and you have not made distinguishes between his criminal accusations. You just scream crucifixion.
SnarkyGoblin
I know @roadtonowhere08 might disagree, but this is what I mean when I say I get frustrated with France's work culture. I cannot pass judgement on any of this unless it is known what led to the strike. Was it justified or was it excessive? Some French strikes are the former and some are the latter. Looks like bad communication from the article. In a semi-related topic: As far as the airline industry is concerned, I will say that it is not known for caring about worker or passenger comfort or needs. Their race to the bottom in everything has led to all of this. Air travel coupled with stock buybacks, cost cutting, razor thin margins, and the public demanding dirt cheap tickets is not exactly a good combination. All the inconveniences of flying are self inflicted. It was better when there was more regulation, less financial pressure, and slightly higher ticket prices.
