Yikes. That looks like a prolonged low level cold pool, east wind regime to me. A pattern change will come though....

00z ECMWF in 9 hours 39 minutes

We will know when the pattern change is imminent because we will stop seeing EPS maps. 🤣

Alright found it. Apparently the anemometer is an ultrasonic and tops out at 89mph, which will be woefully below the actual max wind gusts. The State Park Rangers are the ones who put up the new station.

That sucks 😕 the winds have to be 90+ now. I'm having a hard time trying to stand in the wind. I'm happy I came up. It's so exciting...lol

I will post at least a few runs that show the pattern change... then other people will take over.    A pattern change will be welcome by me when it finally comes.   We really need a period of mountain snow.

I am heading out and up to Crown Point/Vista House. If anyone is up there or is going to head up there I will be in a silver Kia wearing a Santa hat and huge puffy black coat. You can't miss me. Trust me. I will be signing autographs Lol Just kidding, but it would be outstanding though to meet anyone who ventures up there!

This is why Portland's winters are LIT AF compared to Seattle's.

My point was it doesn’t make as big of a difference as he was implying. As shocking as it may seem, it appears Phil may have been making a hyperbolic statement.

Weeklies again. Probably the only chance this winter for  arctic air. If it doesn’t leave from the models.image.thumb.png.47af14ee5496f8e4748603ac780b1826.png

My expectations are something like we had around New Years Day 2015.

I’ll be in FL 12/28 to 1/3. Safe bet it’ll snow here while I’m gone if that pattern verifies.

Would need to be significantly larger than the Columbia Gorge.

I'm going to say this to all the stupid people. DON'T BRING YOUR SMALL KIDS to Crown Point. Your kids will end up in Portland. I can't believe people do that to their kids. It's to D**n windy for them to stand up. I'm still up here for a little longer.

I’ve taken my kids there… They didn’t get out of the car though. Lol

Top of Mt Si was balmy this morning. A little bit of crusty snow at 4,000 ft but that’s it. The easterlies were doing just enough to warm things up without being too strong to be uncomfortable.

Nice pic!

I think that is Mt Si Golf Course in the foreground and Club at Snoqualmie Ridge golf course at little farther to the west.

Just one of these years I want to look back on a torchy December and be able to say six weeks later. “Now I know what December 1929 felt like.”
