A low was supposed to track just like the one this week is looking to track, and was supposed to only be a Whatcom special after a very brief rain/snow mix…Well it came in south of Olympia and blasted everything north of it. Rich Marriott was stunned but each weather segment of the morning news that morning he kept saying that the snow that was falling would turn to rain any moment…That moment never came and the puget sound had a wide spread snow event. Ended up with 6” or so at my place. I still have a VHS tape of King 5 news that morning and Rich being in disbelief! Good ole Rich Marriott. Jeff Renner was cut from the same cloth on snow too. Always talking about how it would warm up and turn to rain. King 5 hires all the non-weenies

Look how clean my window is on the stove, I haven't cleaned it in a year. When the power is out we cook on it and it works great. A wood stove is a must have for me. As you say you can cook on it on top of using it for heat. People with no backup heat source are living dangerously when a storm comes with really cold weather. Friday night was the first time since I've lived here I actually had to turn the heat on while the stove was kicking out at full capacity. That is mainly due to the wind and fairly poor insulation. Fir is my absolute favorite, although I was able to get ahold of some Garry Oak one year and it was awesome. To take it a step further old growth fir from Central WA is even hotter than the stuff on this side of the mountains. 3 Quote Death To Warm Anomalies! LowerGarfield
Got some light snow flurries and wishing I had listened to my 7 year old who said I should put my snowboard out last night (I had it drying off inside for a day). We had some unexpected light snow this morning and I didnt' realize it actually stuck. we had somewhere between a trace and a tenth. I put my board out again and cleared my backup spot for measurement too. I might just give myself a tenth but not sure yet. Today's forecast was no precip and clouds turning to sun. Also I went outside without a coat and my bare hands for about five minutes and was not cold nor did I feel any signs of frostbite. Currently 11F. Still a bit worried about ice for my location in a few days. 3 Quote Garfield County/Pomeroy, WA: 2024-2025 Snowfall totals: HIghest snow total (per event): Most recent accumulation (non trace): Days with trace or more snowfall: First Freeze: TBD Last Sub freezing Day: Coldest low: Last White Christmas: 2022 at my location (on ground)

Chewbacca Defense
25 degrees here so far today after a low of 10. I was outside earlier today and still have that wind coming out of the north. I'll be curious to see what this week brings. Unfortunately, my neighborhood seems to be amongst the first to warm up (at least in the hills east of Bellingham), so I don't have my hopes up too much for anything exciting. Baker was closed yesterday, but just had life flight fly over the house on a return trip from the ski area, so I guess it must be back open today. At least is wasn't a Navy chopper, that usually means a back country hoist rescue.
