February 2014 in the PNW

I can't begin to describe how happy I am that we got to experience a true gorge snow event before moving again this summer. It has been a gorgeous last four days. It is even pretty right now with the glaze of ice.

It will be sad to watch it melt, but I consider myself lucky for getting to experience such an incredible event in the first place.

I really want to feel happy for you... but what you did on here today is tainting me.     I was most happy for you of all people last week.    You waited so long and then you are moving in a couple months.

You got lucky! as did I at Cushman. That winter I was there was the most snow they had in a 2 week period in 20yrs. Talk about timing.

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

We just had a disagreement. It happens. Don't worry. I still consider us friends. :)

Jesse, thank you for editing all your nasty posts from this morning. I'm glad to see that you're able to congratulate Andrew on a job well done and changed your insults against Tim to more mature posts. This is the type of change in behaviour that should be applauded! I'm happy to see you coming around. I'm happy to see those earlier posts removed. I'm proud of you!!

Oh my god.

Saw 2 snowflakes this whole cold snap ... Just rain all night... What a load of crap... Watching everyone at least seeing a bit but having rain all night here is b.s... When's the next chance of a cool down or do I have too wait 11 months again just to be pissed off again?

We managed to get close to 3 inches here last night but it's melting quickly now.

Just drove down into North Bend.     Just a coating of ice/snow here with rain but down there probably 5 inches of snow and now pouring rain.

That is 3 miles away and a drop in elevation from 1,100 feet to 485 feet.

The cold air through the pass allowed the valley below to stay as snow while above the outflow it was raining up here.

Interesting.   Not too often I go down the hill and the snow gets deeper are I drive.

35 with a North wind still hanging on at BLI.

Meanwhile the SE wind broke through here around 6 AM and has been in the mid 40's since 9:00.

I'm only about 5 miles South of BLI so that's pretty impressive.

Same type of thing out here.    The cut-off line was very abrupt.

I see that SEA is up to 48 and BLI is at 44 at noon.    BFI is a toasty 50!

It is very nice to see normal air return... I was getting worried this morning that we would have power outages and downed trees.

Just went out and unburied the car. I have been letting snow and ice build up on it since Thursday just for the heck of it. This is a small town so we don't need to drive anywhere until work opens up again.

It is up to 31 out here and I can hear things dripping for the first time in about six days. The thaw is on.

Don't worry...all these mountain passes (esp. in WA) will see feet of snow this week...

How do you think my drive to Yakima will be tomorrow morning for work? I will hit Snoqualmie Pass around 5:30AM and again on the way back around noonish. Looking at the forecast it is either going to be rain, or freezing rain, or snow depending on which forecast I look at. I am worried about making it back over the pass before the storm hits, looks like the WSW becomes effective at noon tomorrow. Going to be one of those last minute calls if I am going to attempt it or not i guess!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

I know that area very well, I get gas at that Shell station and Starbucks across the street as well every Tuesday morning! I wonder if there will be any snow left when I am there tomorrow morning?

Most likely rain/wet non-accumulating snow at the pass level.

edit:  NWAC has a different idea and thinks it will snow down to pass level.

Not too shabby. It looks like the mean for the 12z GFS drops 850mb temps to about -7C over Seattle with precipitation. That is not too far from snow!

Not sure why the image above shows snow around the canal. It's not right.

It looks like for some reason it thought it was going to snow this morning there from 7-10am which obviously didn't happen.

It did very well out here... a little tongue of snow sticking out into the valley west of Snoqualmie Pass.

Extremely interesting situation out here this morning before we completely scoured out.

Heavy rain and 45 here now... transition is complete.   :)
