00Z ECMWF still on board for some more Randy snow...

Nice dump in the Oregon cascades. Nice to see following the rain today.

We got to 49, down to 44 now. Snow in the yard is gone, though the canyon in front of our house has a lot of snow left. Went down there today and found the trees I heard fall during the heavy snow.

Just incredible reports and pictures from the mountains and east Cascade cities. Would love to be in Leavenworth or Cle Elum. This 4 day pass closures is really crazy.

Was listening to KIRO radio and their were several stories of people with spare rooms offering people that were stranded a place to stay until this storm is over. I can't image how many vehicles are buried on 90.

more flooding pictures/videos.

water here is coming up from the basement and flooding the ground floor. the yard cannot take anymore water. All the lights are on in my neighborhood at 10pm. telltale signs of what is happening exactly... the water table is overflowing... water is just coming up from the ground in many places right now...

7.25" since this time last night.

The 7.25" in the last 24 hours is a new record for me, 6" day total is 2nd highest, if it gets past 6.5" that would be a new daily record.

What....you aren't going to thank the academy, your parents, your agent and all of the fans who got you where you are today???  What about your mom getting up at the buttcrack of dawn to take you to raindance classes?

And what about the raccoons?  Have you no thanks for the raccoons?  I know they are all about the rug pull but they still helped get you where you are today!!

meh....next

In all seriousness, that's an impressive amount of rain, we got about 1/2 of that in a day with the flooding event up here, I can't even fathom what you guys are getting!

Rain shadow has been amazing here. Everett has recorded 0.01” since 4:53 AM. Crazy to think much of the rest of the state has had hundreds of times more rain.

Holy crap!  That's as extreme a shadow as I can remember in that area.  Another case of an unusually flat trajectory this season.

Believe it or not I think these flat trajectory firehose / flood events are key in many of our cold winters.  As a result of that I'm going to be working on a jet stream trajectory index.  It will be an index that will only have relevance in the Oct to Feb time frame and neutral or cold ENSO seasons so it will only involve calculating a relatively small number of months.  I first realized this was a thing in 1990, but have only now thought of an index to capture it.

Raining even harder now. Lot of roads with pools of water on them, but nothing too crazy. I imagine we'll hear about more landslides come morning.

Open in incognito.

Good article about the snowpack and why it's so important.

If we can avoid going into a Nino this year I think this could be an epic year for the snowpack / glacier health.  The key will be keeping summer cool for once.

That's one thing I really like about where I live.  The south wind has an extremely hard time getting in here.  If only I could get the amount of snow you do...

I'm betting it gets started this month.  Nearly perfect one month spacing between cold snap starting points is pretty typical in a good winter.  I hope we can somehow manage to have the second half of the winter dry out a bit.  These things usually even out.

My daughter's school district Montesano is just about the only one in Grays Harbor County that hasn't announced a delay or closure for some reason, I imagine that will change in the morning.

A couple comments about some of the posts I've seen on here.  One is I have never seen anywhere near the amount snow that has happened in the Cle Elum, Ellensburg, and Easton area.  I lived there for a couple of winter, and have had ties to that area for decades.  This is truly exceptional.  Another is concerning the comment on the crazy AR's this season being a sign of climate change or whatever.  The 19th century says hello.  Greatest AR events ever witnessed in the NW were in the autumns of 1853 and 1861.  There is also sedimentary data which suggests the Skagit had a flood in 1816 that puts any modern day flood to shame.

Gonna end up with around 6.3" of rain today 1/6.  And I found my notebook that had a few weather records I jotted down as a back up to laptop.  I was wrong earlier, 6.5" was not the highest daily total ever for me, it was 6.17", so 1/6/2022 is the new record at 6.3" for me.
