November 2017 Observations and Discussion

I'm debating to start a thread for next weekends storm system...lol, lets not get ahead of ourselves for Thanksgiving week!  Although, there is a hybrid clipper-like system that week that is showing up on the ensembles for our region.

 The hype is starting to increase I'm guessing!!

In other news, the sun has been spotless for 11 days.  I think this is the longest stretch this year of being blank.  If anyone has a link to a site where we can see the calendar days of when the sun was blank that would be helpful.

At this time the 11 days are the 2nd longest for this year the longest so far was 15 days back in March. This year has seen the most spotless days(79 so far) since 2009. While not a real calendar you can see the sun spot numbers by date by using the archives pull down on the spaceweather site.

No snow or rain here at this time and the temperature here is now at 36°

Long range keeps spiking worse and worse for Nebraska. Guess we are in for another garbage winter.

Why even bother getting my hopes up anymore?

No kidding. We'll be lucky to see an event of even 4" this year. The primary storm track closest to us is looking to set up to our North with a good Winter for the Dakotas (again).

Imagine a family with two kids. Kid #1 gets a bigger, better present 70% of the time. Both kids get horrible presents 20% of the time. Kid #2 gets a bigger, better present 10% of the time. We are kid #2.

Can winter gods please give NE an inch of snow soon so these people can stop complaining?

Thanks

Consider that as your punishment for stealing everything from us.

I don't care if we get rain, snow, sleet, graupel, or frogs. I would just like some precipitation to show that we are capable of getting moisture before Winter begins. Because right now the primary storm tracks are not even close to us and I see no sign of that changing. And that has been our case for everything except the clipper of Feburary 2015 and Groundhog Day 2016 (which we dry slotted in btw). I am sorry if you don't get what we've been going through for the past 7 (soon to be 8) Winters.

You can’t change it so I don’t get why you’re complaining when winter didn’t even start yet

We’re still 2-3 weeks away

No Winter hasn't started yet. But, it is easy to see the general patterns going into Winter, and unless there is a drastic change in our favor, which would require pigs flying, we are going to be slotted again all Winter in favor of our North and East. Same story as the past 7 years. Capiche?

Friend near Clinton, IA reported snow on the ground. He's not reliable 100% of the time so I'm not sure if that's really the case or not.

Edit: Okay, he sent a picture. There is about a half inch on the ground there.

Congrats!  Radar looks good for you guys out there.  This system is taking a near perfect track thru C IL to put us under the defo zone and I believe its a reason why we are seeing this transition.

Awesome! Maybe the RGEM was right after all??

This sucks, snowing hard in Davenport IA only 59 miles to my east. Combined with the fact Chicago has already seen accumulating snow, it seems Illinois in recent years has been the place to see major snow storms. Based on models, I am starting to think I may not see my first snowfall until December.

Awesome Tom! Is that your first accumulation of the season?

That pic is from Dixon, IL...I had my first accumulations during the LES event.  Here are those pics...nothing crazy, but first official measurable snows...

Edit: Pics taken on 11/10/17

Nothing good for Iowa on The gfs for the foreseeable future. Next Friday’s system will be a significant rain maker it looks like for most areas. We don’t typically see significant snow in eastern Iowa anyway until December. I wish it would warm up though for the rest of the month. 50s would be nice

There's a complaining thread.

Yeah we all know about it too, so stop "complaining" that were not using it.

Part of storm tracking as a snow lover includes being disappointed right? I don't see a problem with expressing that. The trends are obviously terrible for the Plains, so what're we supposed to say?

"It's obvious that this is going to be a horrible year for us because we're used to it, but it's okay, we'll pretend like this year will be a good year while another 2013-14 scenario unfolds!"

Now, STOP COMPLAINING!!1!1!1!!!!2

Our cold spell which started on 10/27 and finally ended yesterday resulted in all but 2 days being below normal (10/29 and 11/4 were slightly above). I'll take this week of late October weather. Cold had better get its act together and come and stay here by Thanksgiving, though. I don't want my family from Houston to be comfortable when they're here.
