January Weather In the PNW

I remember that 4 day forecast busted pretty badly, at least for Tacoma. The Saturday storm only ended up affecting areas south of Olympia, Sunday we got a nice snowstorm of 5-6", but then there was no more snow like day 4 showed there.

We got a few inches that Friday system but our big snow came from the Sunday system that wasn’t forecasted until Friday.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

I just looked at it on a topo map. That looks like one fascinating place. A very rare situation where it's actually placed between the West and East side of the Cascades and somewhat away from the Columbia River gorge in a north / south valley. That could be a fun place to live.

Indeed. Really fantastic microclimate there. They can freeze at the drop of a hat and get a ton of snow. Benefit from being cut off from marine influence in regard to cold but still get relatively copious moisture for snowfall.

Wow, Detroit just set a new record for longest recorded stretch below 20*F. That’s a huge record to fall.

Where’s all the blue over Greenland? It’s supposed to be there, right?

Hopefully the ensembles show signs of more amplification of NE Pacific ridge in the LR.

First it needs to leave the d11-15 clown range. ;)

Was it Tim that earlier mentioned that he had never heard of the town of Conconully? He’s missing out on the annual portapotty race!!

Not me dude. I never said winter is over. I said anything is possible past 7 days in fact. Typical Bryant. Just looking for a fight.

Nope not a fight. You like being an a** to others, so I like to return the favor sometimes. I'm nice like that :)

Nope... you don't even make sense.   You are so set on picking a fight that you don't even read the details.

Did you know?

The Town of Conconully was established by charter in 1887. It was originally settled as a mining town. From 1889-1914 Conconully served as the Okanogan County Seat. When the county seat was moved in 1914, the old County Hall was torn down and the lumber was used for the construction of the current day Community Hall. In the 1890's Conconully was decimated by fire and floods, but the will of the settlers and miners prevailed and Conconully lives on today with families, friends, and businesses.

Conconully began as a boom town called Salmon City by the miners who arrived seeking silver and gold. Their efforts were not particularly successful because the veins of ore were badly fractured. After the miners came farmers and ranchers, many of whom received a grant of land from the federal government and a rifle with which to defend it. In 1887 Conconully became a town of the Washington Territory. By 1889, in recognition of its central location within Okanogan County, Conconully was the county seat, a designation that continued until 1914. The county's first Protestant church was built in Conconully in 1903. This little white church (United Methodist) still holds Sunday services. Noted Japanese photographer Frank Matsura arrived in Conconully in 1903 and worked at a local hotel. His pictures chronicle the area and its people.

When the dam that formed Conconully Reservoir was constructed, his photos told the story of how vision, gravity, and manpower merged to supply water for the orchards of Pogue Flats. Matsura Park, which straddles the north fork of Salmon Creek as is flows through town, honors his genius. The Conconully Museum, opened in 2003 and operated by the Conconully Area Historical Association, provides visitors with an insight of how residents lived and businesses were conducted during the early years of the last century. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends and holidays, beginning with the last weekend in May and extending through the first weekend in September. It will also be opened by request for special viewing. (Call 826-1221 or 826-4308.)

The details never change with you :)

Obviously they do.    Other people were saying winter was over.   Not me.

Past 7 days... anything is possible. Our beautiful white Christmas proved that.  :)
