PNW February 2023 Weather Discussion - Meteorological winter finale

Started out as a mix, now changing to a sticking snow. It's go thyme, baby, this is what we live for

32.9 here now.  Turning out better than I had dared to hope.

Down to 32F actually... That is a couple degrees cooler than I thought it would be.

It seems that a bit of easterly seepage has entered the picture.

We’ve had a lot of great February events in the last several years, but the sequence the last 3-4 days has been my favorite for a variety of reasons. Looks like this stretch still isn’t over by a long shot either.

Heaviest precip hasn'y even entered the area yet. Still got 3-5 hours left of precip for the Sound. Could get fun!

Yea I think 2-3in regional is possibly if this keeps up

Hoping I can score at least 2” out of this. Glad to know the heaviest precip is still to come as the air still isn’t even completely saturated IMBY.

Wow definitely doing better down in the swamp than I am up here. Probably close to a quarter inch on grassy surfaces IMBY.

With how the models are for that right now, I feel like the meet in the middle is going to be central to maybe south puget sound. But I’m liking how Tuesday is trending. I’m hoping we can get something similar to what Portland had a few days ago.

The Central and South Sound get nailed on the 6z GFS on Tuesday.  Real nice event being shown.  Very impressive CAA behind the low also.

Kuchera is actually slightly higher than 10:1 on Tuesday.  Wow!

Would be nice to get the more southern track on the gem and euro. Have been trying to not focus on the models too in-depth past tonight but there’s definitely some differences for just 48ish hours out.

This is…actually kind of laughable. That green is my house. It has persisted the last 3 hours.

Unfortunately I don’t think it will change over there. Down close to the cascades in south pierce county it looks like they’re warmer…picking up on that snow hole the models were showing in pierce county. I’d imagine it’ll slowly creep northwards over the next couple hours.

Snow is really starting to come down now. Picked up 1/2” so far. Starting to stick to the roads as well.

I think you’re right. Models picked up on this snow hole all week, I was just hoping maybe we’d pull through. 
 

It’s pretty wild that it is so localized this way though. It narrowed down to a relatively tiny area.

Microclimates are a b*tch man. 1.1” here just measured a couple minutes ago. Hopefully better luck for some folks who missed out Monday night.

Pattern that made the models look “terrain bleedy” is quite evident on the radar. Strongest echoes tend to stay north of the Fraser.

Some very sloppy flakes falling here at 34 degrees. Looks like it has been sticking a little to some surfaces, but will probably change to rain pretty soon at my location.

This is turning out to be a really nice event so far. After starting as pretty much rain here, everything has a nice coating of white on it and I’m about to go try and sled!

Looks like maybe 1.5 - 2 inches here and snowing pretty good but it appears back edge is approaching.

Just checked my streaming Barkley Village cam in Bellingham and surprised to see almost no snow... looks like it never did cool down enough to really accumulate.   I told my mom there would definitely be significant snow there overnight.   She will be happy that I was wrong.

But I also promised my UW son it would snow tonight (he is very skeptical now of Seattle snow) and I got that one right based on the U Village cam.    Unlike his grandma... my son will be very happy about this!

I have been wondering about how this event would look on radar up there... thanks for posting this because we never get the full radar picture up there.    Very interesting!

3:30 AM porch check, looks like almost 3 inches, snowing lightly

and our roads are covered. Going back to bed now

Warming up pretty quick with the lighter precipitation rates. 35 and I think pretty much all of the snow will be melted by the time most people wake up on this lazy Sunday.
