00z GFS tantalizingly close to being great. 00z GEM looked very promising until the block was pinched off and undercut. Hmmm..... If that 220kt Asian jet could slow down... Would the SSW event slow down the jet/-WPO, or?

The windstorm up here yesterday was about on par with anything I can remember. Seems worse than the Hanukkah eve storm locally. The power grid is just totally trashed. Downed trees, broken power poles, and snapped power lines all across the area. Still 950 outages effecting 80,000 people in SW BC.

Hopefully. My in-laws live on the same section of the grid as the hospital and they were without power for 12 hours. That’s pretty much unheard of, it’s generally back on before you have time to find a flashlight.

Oh and not sure if it was mentioned earlier, but the last few GFS runs have been showing snow possibilities with the system next Wednesday. Likely sticking snow for anyone living with a little elevation.

The damage from northern Snohomish Co. up into Canada is quite substantial...I was one of the few lucky ones to get power restored after 25hrs, but most of my area is still dark and I can hear generators humming in every direction this evening while letting my dogs out. I would say Jan 1993 or the great November early 1980’s storms were similar. Been a long time since we have had this powerful of a windstorm up here.

Wow. My dad said it was easily the worst he’s seen since moving to Port Townsend last October. Worse than the Port Angeles centered storm about a week ago. He lost power for 4-5 hours and said that waves were crashing almost up to street level at the ferry terminal downtown.

A region wide cold and snowy January, with cold anomalies, would be unprecedented within the last 25 years. IMO, we are due for it. This weak Nino/almost neutral year has the signs to deliver the goods. All the players are there.
