January 2019 Weather in the Pacific Northwest

Requiem

Recommended Posts

Pretty sure the 2011 stuff was a way bigger deal further north. There were some localized flurries in and around Dallas.

Just looked- that one was a decent foothill event around PDX and the Gorge. Almost three feet of snow at Mt. Hood though!

"Let's mosey!"

Oh boy. The subtropical NPAC looks absolutely atrocious right now. Not even gonna post the image.

Doesn’t have to hold firm this time, but if it does..

Plus you have a downwelling +QBO/decelerating mass circulation entering boreal summer. In conjunction with the +PMM which already favors off-equator NPAC convection. The above will only enhance it further.

Porn for Tim.

00z GFS was  meh at best. After day 9 some potential. 00z GEM nice run. Big backdoor blast. Potential for more. I like our chances I'm sticking with 15-20% chance arctic blast. We are nearing my January 29th - February 7th window. As long as we see the flow less splitty like this GEM run and a few previous GFS runs we have a solid chance. Onto the GEFS, CMCE, and King EURO.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Globe is still warming though

Meh, seems mostly centered over Northwest North America in recent years. Since 2013, you guys have even put the Arctic to shame.

That’s quite a feat, I have to say.

Being next to a giant warming ocean which moderates temps doesn’t help. Neither does our access to Arctic air being further cut off every year.

Paul

How so?

His politics are kind of silly, but that’s true of most young, naive, over-privileged urbanites these days. I don’t think the dude is mean-spirited.

35 and clear here... looks like some frost on my son's car.    Winter is here!

First day with a sunset after 5 p.m. in Seattle,    That does not happen again until November 3rd... over 9 months away.   :)
